Reese Witherspoon talked about the end of the first season which saw the death of Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s character, Hannah, and the takedown of the network president and said that she feels like at the end of this ten episodes, there’s a whole new world order. It’s chaos. No one knows who is in charge and what leadership means at this point. She said that that’s what they are exploring in the culture right now as it goes topsy turvy, what is the new normal? And added that she is really excited about the fact that they have more to explore now.

The panel also addressed whether or not Steve Carell, who played Mitch Kessler, will return for season 2 as he was only on a one year contract. The showrunner Kerry Ehrin has already said that she would like to bring him back. While Ellenberg said that he has read the first two scripts of the sophomore season and so far there have been no updates and they are exploring around the idea.

The show premiered back in November as part of the Apple TV+’s official launch program and is the streaming service’s most ambitious and expensive offering yet. The show’s stellar first season reportedly cost about a whopping 100 million dollars. The series is an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the men and women who carry out this daily televised ritual.

The panel was also asked how the show had performed and whether or not Apple had shared any ratings data with them and although the panel did not share any numbers, Witherspoon did say that they’re happy with the numbers and Aniston backed her up and said that word of mouth has been lovely. And they are thrilled with the response to the first season.
