Netflix’s Ares season 1, episode 4 recap
Joost’s sudden death prompts a sinister cover-up as those involved scramble to hide the truth of his suicide from his parents on Ares.
Rosa, Jacob, Hester, Carmen, Borms, and Roderick are all brought to Maurits’ house to discuss Joost’s death and how to handle the news. It is decided that there must be a cover-up. The members of Ares and their parents cannot be allowed to find out there was another suicide.
Rosa cuts through the innuendo and bullshit and says that they’ll have to lie and say that they all saw Joost leave the party alive, covering up the fact that he died in Hester’s house. They each take place in mutilating the body to make it look like a severe car accident.
Rosa stands up at a memorial service for Joost attended by his parents and tells them that she saw what happened. She tells a story about how he stumbled out into the road and got hit by a truck. The senior members of Ares all thank her for what she did, but she warns them that she’ll want something in return for her loyalty. She is a player indeed and they are all rightly impressed by her.

All except Jacob. He’s horrified by her actions and afraid for her life. He tells her that they both have to pack up and leave Ares immediately. Rosa severely misjudges Jacob’s attitude and mistakes it for jealousy and resentment. She won’t throw the chance of a lifetime away because of his pettiness.
Rosa betrays Fleur and takes over her internship with Hester as payment for her loyalty to Ares. Rosa plays a serious backstabbing game. As Carmen runs into Rosa in the bathroom, Rosa gets sick again and starts puking up that black stuff. Carmen sees what’s happening and says, “Are you kidding me?” She stands by Rosa and encourages her as she pukes up a huge amount of that black slime. Once she’s finished, Carmen tells Rosa not to flush the toilet, leaving the black slime sitting in the bowl. Eww. But afterward, she feels fine.
It looks like Jacob is trying to escape again but he’s caught by Borms in the hallway. Borms congratulates him on his loyalty and shakes his hand, but when Jacob touches him with his black fingers, Borms is frozen in a vision about a girl he killed. In the memory, he’s told to offer Beal his soul and he pukes up a black egg into the well where the black creature lives. So is Beal the black creature and did Rosa just puke up her soul?
Borms seems a little disturbed, but he’s able to pull himself together to take his place as President of Ares. Back at the Ares house, Jacob tries to break through the bricked up doorway with a sledgehammer but makes no progress.
