Los Espookys season 1 finale recap: The Fake Dream
By Wade Wainio
In the season 1 finale of Los Espookys, Renaldo’s film project flounders, Andrés finds his origins, and there is a surprise wedding.
Previously on Los Espookys, the spooksters dressed up as aliens, Tati (Ana Fabrega) ruined her life by getting into a pyramid scheme, and Ambassador Gibbons (Greta Titelman) freed her mirror image. Her mirror self gave Renaldo (Bernardo Velasco) a passport.
As the season 1 finale begins, Tati still owes 2000,000 pesos to Hierbalite. Another big payoff is Renaldo finally meeting Bianca Nova (Carol Kane). However, the production is chaotic, to say the least.
Nova is a major diva, and the plot and actors are convoluted. For example, Jacqueline Webster (Laraine Newman) is there playing Anne Hathaway, playing a character named Sara. Also, the story involves werewolves, but Renaldo can’t make fangs that grow, because his team at Los Espookys are not there.
Disappointed in the fangs, Bianca Nova also corrects Renaldo about the spelling of his own name! The whole production is stalled. On the bright side, Tico the valet (Fred Armisen) works in a nice philosophical moment. When he struggles to park a car, he asks how the car would park itself.
Tico is capable of creative thinking, so maybe he’ll be more involved with Los Espookys as an organization next season(?).
Other payoffs
Úrsula (Cassandra Ciangherotti) and Andrés (Julio Torres) get a new gig simulating a dream for an insomniac. While that’s sufficiently silly, the weirdest revelation is that Andrés’ adoptive parents are his actual parents, after all!

That is if Water’s Shadow (Spike Einbinder) is to be believed, after finally viewing The King’s Speech. Later, Tati arrives at a wedding, writing on everything with a pen. At first, one assumes it’s a wedding between Andrés and Juan Carlos (José Pablo Minor).
However, it’s actually between Juan Carlos and Tati — a wedding of convenience so he can pay off her egregious debt. This is interesting, as one would assume he could have bailed her out anyway. In an odd twist, though, Mark (John Early) from Hierbalite gets hit by a car anyway, and might even be dead as a result.
Soon, Renaldo returns, realizing movie making is probably not for him. Úrsula gets a new job in a news station, though they call her “Gregoria Santos #9.” Will she be converted into a strange automaton, like #8 was?
Finally, it should be noted that Tati has an explanation for her quirky personality: She experiences the past, present, and future simultaneously.
