In Elite season 3, episode 5, more details about the central murder are revealed—but is the primary suspect a convenient target, or the victim of a cover-up?

Ander has been hiding his cancer diagnosis during this season of Elite but he finally decides to tell his classmates. He gets the pitying looks and sympathy—which he doesn’t want—but he gives the rest of his class a reason to reassess how they look at their present.

But more importantly, Ander’s announcement gets Polo’s attention—Polo has caused so much pain to everyone, especially Ander, one would think they’d never want anything to do with each other. However, by the end of the episode, Ander, Polo, and Guzmán are at Ander’s chemo session together. This is Elite—the bonds between these characters aren’t so easily broken. Or are they?

The Snitch

Rebeca and Valerio have been successfully selling the drugs her mother had left behind to their schoolmates and Rebeca is making enough to pay her school fees. But she wants out of the business that has destroyed her mother, Sandra, so she can live a normal life with Samuel—who Sandra calls ‘little angel’.

Sandra is a wily woman—she knows about the microphone planted in her office earlier in this season of Elite, and she also knows that ‘little angels’ aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. Rebeca refuses to believe that Samuel would hurt her this way but Sandra pushes her to find out for herself.

Rebeca tells Samuel that her mother had cameras around the house, and she had a spare hidden in her room. If she can find the manufacturer, she can bribe them to get footage of the snitch. Samuel may still harbor feelings for Carla but he does care about Rebeca and he knows that his being a snitch will break her heart.

But no matter what Samuel does, Rebeca still finds the manufacturer and sets up a meeting with him at the club the students frequent, where there’s going to be a blackout party. She meets the manufacturer and gets the tape, which she hides in her bag, entrusting Samuel to keep watch over it.

Of course, the moment Rebeca turns away, Samuel gets Omar to throw the bag and evidence away. Rebeca is furious that the tape is gone but things are about to get worse—when the blackout begins, Samuel’s hands are covered with paint. It’s a special blackout paint that Rebeca’s bag was covered in—her test to find out whether Samuel would tamper with the bag to save himself. Rebeca is furious and heartbroken and leaves Samuel with a sore face and insurmountable fear.

Three Against the World

Polo, Valerio, and Cayetana are enjoying being a throuple but how can this last—especially knowing Polo’s track record with throuples on Elite? Polo’s mothers have pulled some strings to get him and Cayetana into a prestigious college in London—Valerio doesn’t have the money or grades to get in himself. Could Polo’s mothers do the same favor for him? Polo isn’t sure—it’s asking too much of them, and they wouldn’t understand how Valerio fits into the equation.

More from Show Snob

Then Polo spends an evening with Ander—who has decided to let bygones be bygones because of how little time he has left, though Guzmán does not agree with that philosophy. He returns a bit high and rejuvenated—people may not understand the throuple idea but it makes Polo happy. He plans to tell his mothers about the three of them and that they should all go to college together.

Easier said than done—when Polo’s mothers return home and find the three of them together, they are furious. And they don’t get understand what Polo is doing—whatever hopes the three had of going off together are dashed.

But not so fast—Valerio is nothing if not resourceful. He’s not making enough money selling drugs to his schoolmates, but the blackout party is a great place to earn. And that’s exactly what he does—before the night is over, Valerio has almost made enough to go to college with Polo and Cayetana. The trio is overjoyed now but something clearly goes wrong after this—at graduation, Cayetana and Valerio are together and Polo is dead.

Tangled Webs

Ander’s condition emboldens Carla to go against her father and refuse to be with Yeray—but that plan doesn’t work. Carla tries to tell her mother about what’s been happening to her this season of Elite but her mother is mute about it—she’s known this whole time and she agrees with the plan. She once had a Yeray who could have given her the world, but she gave him up for love and now they’re bankrupt.

But worse, even though Yeray is signing on to invest in their wineries, he can withdraw anytime in the next five years—effectively trapping Carla is a loveless relationship for all that time. The only way she can get through this nightmare is with drugs—and Valerio has just the right ones for her.

Carla isn’t the only one with relationship drama. Omar can’t get Malick out of his head, and vice versa. Omar—formerly the world’s best boyfriend—is struggling with Ander’s illness and his coldness. Ander knows this and tells Omar to be with other people but Omar doesn’t want to hurt Ander—though he already has his eye on Malick.

At the blackout party, Ander doesn’t stay long, and the moment he leaves, Omar and Malick get together. But, the horror of horrors, Nadia arrives—Lucrecia had been trying to use Omar and Malick’s affair to derail Nadia’s scholarship plans but the two ended up becoming friends and Lucrecia now finds herself trying to hide Omar’s secret from Nadia

But some secrets refuse to remain hidden. When the blackout begins, Nadia sees Malick covered in paint in some compromising areas—as is Omar, who had handled Rebeca’s bag. Nadia knows what’s happening and she is despondent—she may not love Malick like she does Guzmán, but he could have been a good future for her. Nevertheless, Nadia decides to continue being Malick’s beard.

How will these revelations affect Omar and Ander? We aren’t sure—but the two of them appear to be together at the graduation party where Ander confesses to Omar that he killed Polo with the broken champagne bottle. But Omar doesn’t believe him—he thinks Ander is lying to protect someone.

So, Ander tells the truth. He went to get the bottle but someone had beaten him to it—Guzmán.

Final Thoughts

Guzmán being Polo’s murderer makes the most sense—after all, Polo murdered Marina and Guzmán has been out for revenge ever since he learned the truth.

But something tells me this isn’t the whole story. Guzmán and Polo may hate each other but they’re ready to band together for Ander—and Guzmán’s reaction to Polo’s death seemed to be one of genuine sorrow.
