Who knew Better Call Saul’s Kimmy had a little bit of that Saul Goodman cleverness in her?

Better Call Saul intrigues me on so many levels. We have a show that, on its own, has a lot of merit and success. But coupled with the Breaking Bad story, it becomes even more interesting. The beautiful part about this is that if it was a standalone show, I think we would all enjoy it just as much as we do now.

As we inch closer to the end of this season and the end of the series as a whole, a lot of connections to Breaking Bad have been popping up. At the end of the previous episode, we saw a beaten-up Mike wake up in the middle of nowhere. As he goes in and out of consciousness, a familiar is seen operating on Mike. Someone you might remember as Barry Goodman (did Jimmy get the idea for his name from him?).

Barry’s instructions are strictly restricted to making sure Mike is taken care of and kept alive. Despite Mike wanting to leave, he really can’t do much about it, so stay there he must.

Meanwhile, Kim and Saul play some clever AF games this week on Better Call Saul that make me wonder if Kim has just been Saul’s life this entire time. Maybe she’s still with him during the Breaking Bad era–what do you think?

Anyway, Saul is a thorn in Mesa Verde’s side as they attempt to make a call center and remove a housing development to do it. He goes through a series of maneuvers to delay the process as long as possible, which included changing the house numbers around to spark an investigation into whether they had the right place.

Saul proceeds to place pottery outside of the house to spark a debate about its historical value and then takes batteries and crushes them up.

He sprinkles the battery dust to make radiation levels go up which presents yet another problem for Mesa Verde. Last but not least, Saul draws an image of Jesus onto the side of the house so people flock to see it.

Basically, all of this side hustle is all to help Kim get what she needs. To be honest, I’m worried about what will happen to her if she continues to go down the Saul road. I’m loving this fierce side of her, but at the same time, it could all go sideways really fast.

Meanwhile, Howard is completely unaware that Saul destroyed his car with bowling balls. He calls in to check with Saul if he is going to take the job offer, and our clever ‘ol Saul pretends like he doesn’t even remember. Way to keep the guy on his toes!

It was a matter of time, but Kim’s boss is definitely onto the shenanigans taking place behind the scenes, but she manages to hang onto the Mesa Verde account for the time being. Be careful, Kim, be very careful!

Mike spends most of his days in this Better Call Saul episode, recovering from his wounds and trying to get a hold of Gus. Eventually, Gus drops by to talk to Mike and reveals that this place is somewhere he doesn’t conduct business. It does seem like a tranquil quiet community, and it feels like it may be very special for Gus.

There’s even a fountain placed right in the middle of the complex, dedicated to someone named Max. Perhaps, someone Gus is related to? A brother? His father? A cousin?

Nah, it’s for his old partner, Max, who the Salamancas murdered back in Breaking Bad season 4. At least that’s what I’m assuming here.

I just want everyone to pay attention to the fact that this is the moment Mike decides to partner up with Gus. He has a thirst for revenge, and Gus is the one to help him get it through whatever means. And as we know, Mike becomes Gus’ right-hand man well into Breaking Bad. This relationship is here to stay–for a very long time.
