Ozark season 3, episode 4 recap: Boss Fight
By Ariba Bhuvad
Ozark has us wondering–is Marty going to survive?
Ozark sure knows how to give us a panic attack. And I mean, it constantly has us on the edge of our seats as the characters put themselves in compromising situations. In the fourth episode of the season, we find a kidnapped Marty blindfolded in a car. Where are they taking him? Is he going to get killed? What the heck is going on?!
As it turns out, Marty is being taken to Mexico, and Wendy is in a worried frenzy over who took him and who planned this. First suspect? Helen, of course. But Helen denies having any involvement in Marty’s kidnapping, but come on, Ozark fans know to question this.
Spiraling out of control, or at least on the verge of it, is Ben, who has finally learned the truth about the Byrde family. They’re in knee-deep in cartel business, buddy. Surprise?!

Cutting back to Mexico, Marty is taken to Navarro and while he tries to explain himself, the cartel boss just has one question–what does Marty want? I mean, easy enough question, right? Apparently not because after he’s unable to answer, Navarro has Marty locked up in some underground dungeon.
At the casino, Agent Miller continues to grow suspicious of Marty’s “absence” as Ruth decides to take over while he’s gone. Even though Marty is gone, the plan to keep the FBI at bay is in effect, and it’s up to Ruth to make sure things go as planned. Once again, Ozark plays with fire as there is literally an FBI agent in the casino watching their every move.
Meanwhile, back in Mexico, Marty must face Navarro once again who wants to know why Marty was spying on Wendy. Side note: Navarro quickly figured that out, and he can’t have people working for him pitted against one another. I must admit that of all the villains we’ve seen surface on Ozark, Navarro scares the crap out of me. He has such an intimidating look about him and its incredibly scary.
Marty finally reaches his breaking point and screams to Navarro that only is he scared of Wendy, but he didn’t want to acquire another casino. Feeling so far gone, he wishes bad things upon Navarro (risky move there, Marty). But does Navarro really care? Nah, he just shines a light on Marty and blasts music–really loud.
Agent Maya confronts Wendy back at the casino stating she knows that Marty is in Mexico, and if someone doesn’t cooperate, Marty is going to die. I mean, as horrible as that sounds, it doesn’t seem unlikely.
But there is a sudden need for Marty after one of Navarro’s bank accounts is frozen. Good ‘ol Marty knows what to do and gets the account operating again. But it wasn’t enough to score him a ticket out of that horrid cell.
With his back against the wall, Marty figures out what he wants and shares it with Navarro. Meanwhile, Wendy is a hot mess back home in the Ozarks. I didn’t think she cared for Marty anymore, but this is proof that the worry and concern are still very much there.
Anyway, Marty tells Navarro that he wants to launder and attempt to turn the pesky FBI agent lurking about the casino. Not sure how this will work out, but it worked.
Marty is taken back home, and he’s not looking too great. Are the days of conniving, clever Marty over on Ozark? I sure hope not.
