Love 101 Season 1, Episode 2 recap: Burcu and Kemal attend a rock concert
By Mads Lennon
In episode 2 of Love 101, Sinan struggles with his emotions while the gang attends a rock concert with Burcu and Kemal in tow.
Osman, Eda, Kerem, Sinan, and Isik put their first plan to get Burcu and Kemal together into action in episode 2 of Love 101.
While Işık feels they should go the romantic route, Eda decides it would make more sense to try and get the two teachers to sleep together and fall in love along the way. Everyone agrees, including a reluctant Işık, and a plan to get them to hook up at an upcoming rock concert is hatched.
The build-up
Getting both teachers to the concert proves trickier than any of the teens could have anticipated. Mr. Kemal is a pain in the a** and not the nicest guy around.
It is easy enough to get Burcu to agree to attend, Eda and Kerem come up with a lover’s quarrel ploy to make it seem like Kerem is her angry ex-boyfriend that plans to kill her new love interest at the event. Eda appeals to Burcu’s sense of protectiveness over her students and begs her to come as a “chaperone,” so Kerem stays on his best behavior.
Getting Kemal to agree to attend is a different matter altogether. Both Kerem and Osman strikeout, so Sinan steps in with a more straightforward tactic. He convinces Isik to annoy Kemal with a request to go to a “get to know you” picnic.

Sinan happens to make a noise to draw Kemal’s attention to a board, advertising the concert on the same night as Isik’s event. He leaps at the chance to make plans for that night to escape the icebreaker.
The next obstacle is convincing Isik’s mom to let her honor student go to a rock concert, of all things. The only way to do that is to do what these students do best — lie through their teeth.
They all dress in their Sunday best and pretend to be good boys and girls to Isik’s worried mother. She eventually relents to letting Isik go out with them to a “movie.”
During their sitdown, Isik’s mom starts going on a lecture about how important children are to their parents.
She inadvertently upsets Sinan, who lives with his ailing grandfather. It becomes apparent that he drinks so heavily because his family abandoned him.
He gets super drunk and falls in the river. Love 101 makes it seem like he might have drowned himself, but luckily that doesn’t happen.
The concert
As if getting the teachers to the concert wasn’t hard enough, now the gang has to figure out a way to make them want to be near each other. The most effective method comes from Kerem, who admits he has feelings for Eda and needs Kemal to distract Burcu so he can be alone with her.
It quickly becomes evident that Kerem is not lying, and he genuinely does have feelings for Eda. Apparently, Kemal isn’t totally coldhearted either, since he is moved enough by Kerem’s plea to keep Burcu company.
But when that doesn’t move things along quickly enough, Sinan tricks them both into going into the bathroom and barricading the door. That doesn’t last long, either. Another couple comes in and starts getting hot and heavy in the neighboring stall, motivating Kemal to kick their door down and free them.
Eda gives up on the potential couple, and they all ditch the concert, taking Burcu’s bag with them, leaving the poor woman stranded. However, their decision pays off since Kemal offers to drive Burcu home. For once, it seems the adults might be making headway since Burcu seems charmed by his taste in music.
The aftermath
In the final moments of the episode, Eda invites the group back to the house to spy on Burcu, since she is her neighbor. They eagerly wait for the adults to return, hoping that Kemal might follow Burcu inside.
Slowly the group leaves to get back to their own homes until only Kerem remains. The parallels between Kerem/Eda and Burcu/Kemal are apparent. Eda can’t top commentating the couple as they get home, Kemal parks, and follows Burcu inside.
She pleads for him to make a move and kiss her while they’re alone! They might not get this chance again for a while, she says.
The whole time she talks, Kerem is staring, rapt with attention, at Eda’s eager expression, taking her advice toward the adults as advice for himself.
When the door shuts, and Burcu closes the curtains, it seems like a victory to Eda. Maybe they will spend the night together! She hugs Kerem in celebration, and the hug quickly turns romantic.
She pulls back, and it looks like they’re about to kiss and then — BAM credits roll. Ugh, Netflix.
