Love 101 Season 1, Episode 3 recap: Everything falls apart

The group splinters as tempers rise and tension grows in episode 3 of Love 101. Elsewhere, Kemal and Burcu feel a spark between them.

Episode 3 of Love 101 starts off happy enough with Kemal and Burcu seemingly in a good place, but things quickly fall apart. By the end of the episode, everyone is in a bad place and it looks like some relationships might be fractured beyond repair.

We get to see the aftermath of the night before from a different perspective. Kemal and Burcu do hit it off, as the teens hoped, although they don’t end up having sex.

Instead, they stay up for hours talking to each other and drinking. Burcu gets drunk off the brandy and beer from the concert. Kemal kindly escorts her to bed. They come dangerously close to kissing. Burcu begs him to stay the night, and he sleeps on the couch.

In the morning, it looks like romance could be in full bloom. Both of them are going starry-eyed over each other. But suddenly, Burcu goes cold and freaks out. She breaks a dish and cuts herself in the process. When Kemal tries to help her, she snaps at him, ending their brief honeymoon phase.

At school, Burcu’s friend and fellow teacher makes her intentions toward Kemal known. She bluntly asks him to “have a little fun” with her. At first, he rebuffs her advances. Then at lunch, in front of Burcu, Kemal flirts with her to make Burcu jealous, and it seems to work, but that’s as far as things go between the two in this episode.

The group gets into a heated argument

As for our central teenagers, things aren’t great for them in episode 3 of Love 101.

Eda is trying to keep Kerem at arm’s length since their almost-kiss the night before. He feels like everything she says might be a veiled hint at her true feelings for him.

Isik tries to do something nice for Sinan by turning in her quiz blank and putting his name on her completed quiz so he can get a decent grade. The altruistic act severely spooks Sinan.

As Isik says in the voiceover, he is afraid of being loved, and he certainly doesn’t know how to be. His parents abandoned him for their new families. Earlier in this episode, we saw his father stop by the old house to take the good china for his new home, which is completely messed up.

It doesn’t excuse the way Sinan lashes out at Isik and humiliates her, but it is understandable why he let himself get so overwhelmed by her actions.

When Sinan comes out all fired up and ready to fight, he pretty much sinks the entire group’s ship. They were in the middle of having a friendly chat on the lawn when Sinan storms out and starts screaming at Isik.

The other guys jump in to try and control him, but everyone turns on one another. Eda tells Kerem to get lost and has some particularly harsh words for Sinan, telling him to “go die like he’s always wanted to.” Ouch.

At the end of the episode, each member of the group is shattered and in tears. Eda takes to her room to work on depressing drawings while Sinan screams into the abyss outside his house. He also throws the remaining china dishes into the water, and honestly, I don’t blame him for that. His dad sucks.

Kerem stalks the back alleyways looking for a fight, and he finds one with multiple guys. By the end of the brawl, he’s looking worse for the wear, and all he can do is burst into tears.

Jeez, lots of teen angst in episode 3!
