Harley Quinn Season 2 episode “Batman’s Back, Man” gives us a look at Batman’s return. Here’s some moments to take away from this episode.

One thing Harley Quinn Season 2 has done well throughout both seasons is poking fun at itself, along with the ridiculousness of the world. “Batman’s Back, Man” might not feature the hammer-swinging anti-hero, Harley Quinn, but it still remains true to it’s mocking-format that we’ve grown to love. Here are some key moments to take away from this episode.

Harley Quinn breaks the fourth wall

Our opening scene introduces us to two nameless fanboys, one wearing a “Release the Snyder Cut” t-shirt and the other wearing a shirt that reads “The Last Jedi is Not Canon.” Right away, we get to know the more opinionated of the two as he rants about his distaste for Harley Quinn.

He calls it, “a heavy-handed female empowerment story where the true villain is the quote-unquote patriarchy.” I, for one, am here for the fourth-wall breakin’ that starts this episode off.

The two end up reading the synopsis for “Batman’s Back, Man,” and after discovering that it will not include Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy decide to hit play. Because, yes friends, this episode has no appearance from the titular character whatsoever, and instead, focuses on Batman’s return to Gotham.

Batman discovers Gotham is burning

After waking up, Bruce Wayne is relieved to see that Gotham is just fine. That is until he discovers that he’s actually looking at a painting and the real Gotham is in flames. Of course, he wants nothing more than to put the Bat Suit on and save his city, but Alfred is just not having it and instead invites Bruce to be his binge-buddy.

Bruce asks Alfred where the other heroes of Gotham are and his butler’s response is that The Macaroni and Batgirl are trying their best. Yes, that’s right — Barbara Gordon is back and donning the Bat symbol.

In Batman wear, our injured hero meets with Batgirl; who’s, like any typical hero would, filming her crime-fighting live on a social networking platform. When noticing that Batman has arrived, she squeals with excitement and informs him that she is “such a stan.” She then turns her camera onto both of them and notifies Gotham that Batman is officially back.

Batman contacts his technological right-hand man, Lucius Fox, to help create a Batsuit that will compensate for his feeble state. As much as he tries to hide this meeting from Alfred, our favorite butler knows right away that Bruce is lying and hides the suit in his room.

In the middle of the night, Bruce sneaks into Alfred’s bedroom to get his costume so that he can do his crime-fighting schtick. Unfortunately, this doesn’t go well for him and he ends up getting saved by The Macaroni (who we now know is Alfred) and Batgirl.

Two-Faced and Bane’s “50/50” partnership

Only two members of the Injustice League remain, Two-Faced and Bane. As usual, Bane isn’t treated with respect from his so-called ally. Sitting once again in his tiny chair, Bane tells Two-Faced that the two should work together because there’s strength in numbers. As expected, Two-Faced rejects this notion.

However, when he later breaks into a bank he receives the news — no one is afraid, because Batman is back. Our villain decides that maybe a partnership with Bane isn’t such a bad idea. Back at headquarters, Two-Faced offers Bane a comfortable chair and proposes a 50/50 partnership.

Yet, it doesn’t feel so 50/50 when their poster features just Two-Faced and a barely noticeable shadow that’s suppose to represent Bane. And when Bane comes face-to-face with Bats, Batman tells him that his beef isn’t with the Luchador, but instead with Two-Faced, because he’s “clearly” running the operation.

Gordon Gets a New Partner

Our episode concludes with a reunion between Gordon and Batman. Gordon receives the bad news: Batman is not physically able to do his job, and that he needs time to get back into fighting shape. He then proceeds to introduce the commissioner to his new partner, Batgirl, who almost slips up and calls Jim “dad.” Hopefully, this partnership will work out better than Bane and Two-Faced’s.
