Connor’s Guilt

Connor Walsh has struggled with his guilt ever since he chopped up Sam Keating’s dead body way back in season one. He’s been embroiled in several shady activities ever since and has dragged his once-morally innocent husband Oliver Hampton into this mess.

More from Show Snob

Connor is so desperate to pay for his actions that he has willingly signed a deal that will land him in jail for five years. Now, he feels even worse about lying on the stand, because, unlike him, Laurel Castillo spoke the truth and came to Annalise’s defense in court.

Connor insists the others confess to everything, an option that Laurel, Oliver, and Michaela Pratt refuse to accept. Connor brushes his outburst off as a joke, but we all know he’s done with lying. Oliver has to threaten Connor with an immediate divorce to persuade Connor not to rock the boat.

In a desperate attempt to keep Connor out of jail, Oliver makes his own secret deal with the FBI – he’ll lie about Annalise ordering him to delete compromising photos of herself and her student Wes Gibbins, in exchange for Connor getting the same deal as Michaela.

This deal blindsides Connor, but he sees through the FBI and Oliver. Connor refuses the deal and hands Oliver divorce papers. Oliver can’t believe that Connor is actually doing this. Connor doesn’t want Oliver to waste five years of his life waiting for the man who turned him into a criminal to return from jail. Oliver has sacrificed everything for Connor and deserves better. But Oliver loves Connor and is shattered by this turn of events. Is this it for this beloved How to Get Away with Murder pairing? Say it isn’t so!

The Trial Continues

Annalise has been representing herself at the trial of her life. Things were looking up in the previous episode of How to Get Away with Murder, but that doesn’t remain the case in the finale. Nate Lahey had seemingly convinced Jorge Castillo to testify against the governor and help Annalise’s case; yet, when Jorge takes the stand he willfully points to Annalise as the conspiratorial killer.

Then, it’s the turn of Governor Lynne Birkhead (Laura Innes). Over the course of the show, we’ve seen what a cool customer she is and Birkhead doesn’t disappoint in court. For the most part. She denies knowing the Castillos or causing Nate’s dad’s death. But then she gets petty and insinuates that murder is Annalise’s game.

But these testimonies are not helping Annalise. And Teagan Price has even worse news – the prosecution has a secret witness who could derail Annalise’s case. Annalise realizes that they must have Wes’ confession. Is she done for?

Not yet. Nate takes the stand – he and Annalise have had a tumultuous relationship, and Nate’s behavior has bordered on erratic. He didn’t seem perturbed by Jorge’s about-turn, so what’s Nate planning? When asked about being framed for Sam’s murder, Nate lies.

Though Annalise had confessed to him several seasons ago that she had framed him, Nate takes the higher ground and pins the blame on the governor and the Castillos. When he and Annalise meet up, Nate hands her Wes’ confession, which he took from Xavier Castillo. Nate has finally put hate and anger behind him and now he wants Annalise to do the same.

As Annalise burns Wes’s confession, her mother and sister arrive. Annalise still isn’t sure if she deserves to win, but her mother doesn’t want to hear it.
