What is The Alienist: Angel of Darkness about?

While The Alienist followed Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and his pursuit of a ritualistic killer, Season 2 will focus more on Sara Howard (Fanning), his former secretary.

In The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, Sara has opened her own private detective agency and has taken the lead on a new case.

She will reunite with Kreizler and newspaper-illustrator-turned-reporter John Moore (Evans) to hunt down a kidnapped infant taken from the Spanish Consular. Again, the trio will cross paths with a deadly and intelligent killer.

The series shines a light on “provocative issues of the era,” including gender roles, misleading press, income inequality, corruption, and more.

Matthew Shear, Robert Ray Wisdom, Ted Levine, and Douglas Smith will all return in the new season, too. Newcomers include Melanie Field and Rosy McEwen.

As Collider points out, even if you haven’t seen the series before, the new trailer might just entice you to give it a chance. Season one is currently available through the TNT app and Hoopla.
