Fans of The Walking Dead can rejoice about this upcoming spinoff.

The Walking Dead made several announcements today including the reveal of the show’s final season and the Daryl and Carol spinoff. The Walking Dead spinoff will follow Season 1 veterans Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), who have both evolved over the course of ten — going on 11 seasons  — and their story doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. What can fans expect of this next installment?

The Walking Dead spinoff: What is the Daryl and Carol spinoff about?

Little is known about when in The Walking Dead timeline the new spinoff will take place. If it follows the currently unknown events of Season 11, then fans are safe to assume both characters survive the finale.

The spinoff would then be a continuation of their adventures into the apocalyptic world. This will open the door to future spinoffs and perhaps the introduction to new stories and characters.

If the spinoff follows the events between seasons, perhaps during time jumps, fans can see what is becoming of their close but recently tumultuous friendship. Daryl had always taken on a sort of lone-wolf persona even when it was unintentional and Carol may be following in those footsteps.

The showrunners could simply throw us for a loop and make it a spinoff of events that may have occurred in seasons passed that never got to be explored. The theories are truly limitless.

Showrunner Angela Kang said in a statement from the TVLine article, “I could not be more excited to be working with Scott Gimple and AMC to develop a new series for Daryl and Carol. Working with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride has been a highlight of my career, and I’m thrilled that we get to keep telling stories together.”

As for The Walking Dead series finale coming in Season 11, fans can only wonder how such a profound and popular television show could end. The show has managed to keep going for so long without skipping a beat that the realization it has to come to an end is rather jarring.

Fans have seen many heroes and villains come and go with finding both victory and defeat since 2010. Who will be the final ones standing and at what cost?
