Emily in Paris recap: Episode 10, ‘Cancel Couture’
By Mads Lennon
Emily rushes to save Fashion Week and Pierre’s career while potentially having to say goodbye to her new friend in Emily in Paris Episode 10.
As we veer toward the end of Emily in Paris Season 1, Emily faces the possibility of losing Gabriel for good, while starting a new relationship with Mathieu. Emily in Paris Episode 10 begins with a breakfast date between Mindy and Emily. Mindy received an exciting new emcee job offer at the drag club where she sang last week, but to do it she’ll have to request two nights off a week from the family she nannies for.
Emily encourages her to do it just as she gets a text from Mathieu and assumes it’s a potential work emergency. She rushes off to meet him and he surprises her with a boat ride down the river. They cap off their day together with wine on his balcony, which presents gorgeous scenic views of the city. But just as things start getting steamy, Mathieu gets a frantic phone call from Pierre. He’s threatening to cancel his upcoming Fashion Week show.
At work the next day, Luc tries to give his presentation on the Zimmer/Antoine collaboration project, but everyone is too distracted to pay attention.
Sylvie is irritated because Antoine is there trying to talk to her, Emily is trying to touch base with Mathieu to check on Pierre and Julien is the one who finally breaks the news that Pierre has officially canceled his show and forfeited the venue. Not only that but not long after it happens, Gray Space takes over the venue, essentially spitting in Pierre’s face.
Emily in Paris Episode 10 recap: Why does Sylvie fire Emily from Savoir?
Just as the news breaks, Mathieu calls Emily to fill her in on the details, and Emily mentions “Mat” is calling. Sylvie’s eyes practically bulge out of her head when she hears the shorthand and she reaches across the table for Emily’s cell so she can take the call instead. Afterward, she fires Emily, blaming her for derailing Pierre’s career and assuming she slept with Mathieu. Honestly, I wish Emily had stood up for herself here because Sylvie was way out of line, not to mention hypocritical.
Donning a dazed expression, Emily returns to her desk to gather her things. Julien and Luc wonder what happened and seem relieved when Emily tells them she got fired.
”We thought someone died!”
Apparently, it’s next to impossible to fire someone in France due to all the paperwork. They tell her to just keep coming to work, pretend she’s finishing things with her clients, and stay out of Sylvie’s way.
Emily in Paris Episode 10 recap: Gabriel accepts a job in Normandy and plans to move.
At home, Emily receives another big blow when she spots Camille and Gabriel fighting in the doorway. Gabriel accepted an offer for a restaurant in Normandy. He’s planning to move immediately. Camille is heartbroken by this since it essentially means the end of her relationship unless she wants to leave her entire life behind in Paris. Emily gives her a hug and tells her she’s there if Camille needs anything (like someone to kiss her boyfriend?). Camille calls Emily “such a good friend”
Emily visits Gabriel in his apartment, which is already in boxes. He’s not wasting any time getting a move on. Emily tells him she’ll miss his omelets and asks to see a picture of his new restaurant. Located next to a Michelin-starred restaurant, Gabriel hopes people will come to his place when that one is too busy.
Emily in Paris Episode 10 recap: Pierre creates a new dress line inspired by Emily.
Sylvie is shocked to see Emily back at work the next day as if nothing happened. With some coaching from Julien, Emily says she’s just finishing up last-minute details for her clients before leaving. Luc also says Emily should take over the Antoine/Zimmer project until Emily’s termination paperwork is filed, giving her more to do.
As soon as Emily sits down at her desk, she gets told that Pierre personally asked to see her. Not trusting Emily, Sylvie demands to go with her. Pierre is in lively spirits as he shows them a new dress he’s made, something inspired by Emily, although we aren’t shown it yet. Sylvie’s expression indicates it’s shocking.
The problem is, he gave up his venue and they can’t do a show with one dress. Pierre says he’ll make more, he’s brimming with inspiration now. Emily and Sylvie just need to figure out the venue — and Emily thinks they might already have the perfect one available.
Emily in Paris Episode 10 recap: Mindy moves in with Emily after getting fired.
Mindy shows up out of the blue at Emily’s apartment that night. The nanny family fired her and she needs a new place to stay, so of course, Emily offers up her small apartment. Apparently firing people in France isn’t so hard when they overstay on an illegal visa. While Mindy settles in, Emily gets another visitor. This time, it’s Gabriel.
He gifts Emily the omelet pan as a going-away present and invites her to visit him at the restaurant on his last night. Mindy overhears the conversation through the bathroom (“these walls are made of straw and horsehair”) suggests she go since they’ve been mooning over each other since Emily got here.

On the day of Gray Space’s big show, Emily sets up a giant garbage truck to come plowing into the red carpet area, blaring music. Suddenly Pierre’s models come out of the truck wearing neon-colored, garish garments that say things like, “so tacky,” “basic,” “fashion is dead, “Pierre is over,” etc. The collection is a hit and the Gray Space guys look stupefied as Pierre steals back the show.
Afterward, the Savoir team, Mathieu and Pierre dine at Gabriel’s restaurant to celebrate. Mathieu loves the meal but invites Emily to spend the weekend with him in St. Tropez so they can really celebrate. It’s a pleasant evening until Antoine shows up with his wife. Sylvie excuses herself and Antoine’s wife takes her seat.
She tells Emily she’s happy about her taking over Antoine’s team, she thinks Emily is better-suited for her husband than Sylvie. She basically tries to pimp Emily out as Antoine’s new mistress, Emily is understandably disturbed.
Speaking of Antoine, he touches base with Gabriel after learning he’s moving to Normandy. He understands why he wouldn’t want to accept his girlfriend’s family’s money. It’s complicated. Similarly, Antoine’s wife invested in his business when he was just starting out. Plus, as Gabriel says while looking at Emily and Mathieu, he’s not sure he has anything left for him in Paris anyway — Antoine notices the thousand-yard stare.
Once the dinner has wrapped, Antoine and Emily say a strained goodbye to each other while Mathieu waits so they can attend another Fashion Week party. Emily decides she’d rather turn in for the night, if that’s okay, and Mathieu says yes, of course! They have all weekend to celebrate on their trip. Gabriel looks pretty heartbroken by their new relationship.
Emily in Paris Episode 10 recap: Emily and Gabriel finally sleep together.
But Emily can’t deal with their final goodbye being so awkward so she rushes back to the restaurant while Gabriel is closing. The two share a passionate kiss and stumble back to his place where they finally make love.
During pillow talk, Emily says that while the night was incredible, he’s leaving to Normandy and they shouldn’t see each other again because it would only result in them both hurting people they really care about. The timing was just never right for them. Still, at least they’ll always have this one perfect thing.
The next morning, at work, Sylvie tells Emily that on the heels of her success with Pierre — who now has an interview planned with Vogue and is reaping positive press — she has decided not to fire Emily, after all. She then admits that Emily has potential, but lacks polish, and says in the future she won’t go as easy on her as she has been. Pfft.
Emily in Paris Episode 10 recap: Antoine invests in Gabriel’s business — he’s not moving after all.
During her walk home, Emily gets a text from Mathieu confirming their weekend plans, she tells him she can’t wait. While walking to work, she notices Antoine sitting outside of Gabriel’s restaurant and learns he has invested because he didn’t want to see Paris’s next best up-and-coming chef shipped off to Normandy.
I also think Antoine is a Gabriel/Emily shipper and is enjoying playing fairy godfather or something. Anyway, now Gabriel doesn’t have to move and clearly has some expectations for a future with Emily. He rushes off as Emily gets a text from Camille declaring the news, Gabriel isn’t leaving and she wants to talk to Emily. What now!?
