Emily’s weekend trip to Camille’s château quickly becomes complicated in Emily in Paris Episode 8. In Paris, Mindy meets up with old friends.

We jump straight into love triangle drama at the beginning of Emily in Paris Episode 8, as Emily receives a cryptic text message from Camille asking if they can have lunch because she has something she needs to ask her. Mindy advises Emily to avoid picking a place with steak knives since they both assume Camille has found out about Emily sharing multiple kisses with Gabriel.

While Emily is considering moving buildings, Mindy has to contend with five of her close friends coming into town to be bridesmaids for a wedding. None of them know she works as a nanny and Mindy doesn’t want them to find out. She begs Emily to go clubbing with that night to serve as a witness to her faux life. So long as Emily dodges executioner Camille, she should be fine.

Camille actually knows nothing about Gabriel and Emily as evidenced by their lunch date. She just wants to know if Savoir would be interested in taking on her family’s champagne company despite them being smaller than Savoir’s average companies. Instead of consulting with Sylvie or taking a second to think through acceptance, Emily immediately says yes out of guilt. She gets to pretend to be Camille’s close friend while still not telling her the truth and potentially not being able to fulfill her promise regarding Savoir. Nice move.

Not only that, but Camille also invites Emily to visit her château in Champagne for a weekend trip to meet her family and talk business regarding Savoir. However, as expected, Sylvie, Luc and Julien are not impressed by Emily’s champagne business offering.

She doesn’t know anything about their brand, previous agencies or revenue. She’ll need to do more research during her trip if she wants to make a partnership happen between Savoir and Camille’s mother.

Before heading off for the weekend, Emily accompanies Mindy out for a night at the bar with her wild best friend Li, the bride, and her equally crazy bridesmaids.

Li makes a point to tell Emily how little she knows about Mindy’s Paris life. Mindy changes the subject before they can get into it and Li is happy to get champagne and shower the girls in it.

“Oh, we don’t get to drink it?”

“Don’t worry, they’ll buy more.”

Emily in Paris Episode 8 recap: Gabriel joins the trip.

The weekend trip gets off to a bumpy start when Gabriel gets time off and agrees to accompany Camille home. Camille’s tiny red convertible has hardly enough room for two people so Emily is forced to sit on Gabriel’s lap the entire ride there. To make things even more awkward, things are still tense between Camille and Gabriel since Camille asked her mom to fund his restaurant, she agreed, and then Gabriel rejected her money.

Once at the chateau, we meet Camille’s mother who has no problem dismissing Gabriel to go to the market within seconds of greeting him. Emily tries to avoid him by touring the house and winds up getting an eyeful of Camille’s very naked father. Aside from his abrupt nudity, he’s a warm, genial man who quite likes Gabriel and his excellent cooking. He tells them to ride the bikes to the market and enjoy the gorgeous weather.

A romantic bike ride to a cute country market? Emily says no thank you. She doesn’t think she and Gabriel can keep their hands off each other in such a setting. He thinks they can still be friends, but Emily would rather avoid him as much as possible. Honestly, good. Gabriel is being a major jerk by gaslighting Emily and manipulating her into thinking he’s a nice guy when he’s perfectly fine treating Camille like trash.

She goes on a tour of the vineyards instead and meets Camille’s cute brother Timothée (Victor Meutelet), who, hopefully, doesn’t have a secret girlfriend.

Emily in Paris Episode 8 recap: Emily and Timothée sleep together, while Mindy performs in Paris.

That night the family enjoys a nice dinner courtesy of Gabriel, along with some extremely cringey dick jokes, (seriously, who wrote those?). At least it starts out nice until Camille’s mother makes a sly comment about Gabriel’s restaurant. It’s clear her parents feel disrespected by his rejection.

Retiring to her bedroom, Emily catches up with Mindy who says one of the bridesmaids is planning a crazy surprise and plans to livestream it on Instagram. Emily promises to watch.

It turns out, Mindy’s friends already knew her dad cut her off and that she’s been working as a nanny in Paris. The only thing Li doesn’t get is why she hasn’t been singing! They trick her into performing karaoke at a drag club and she performs a fresh rendition of “Chandelier” by Sia, the song that she butchered on Chinese Popstar.

She’s a smashing success and her friends livestream it to the world. Emily is delighted to see Mindy doing so well and appears to get inspired by a video of the girls spritzing champagne everywhere.

However, in Champagne, Emily is greeted by loud arguments from the neighboring rooms in the house. Camille and her mother are getting into it over Gabriel so she sneaks out by the pool to hide. Timothée finds her there and they have champagne and flirt. Emily falls into bed with him and wakes up late the next morning to multiple texts from Camille telling her to come down to breakfast.

Emily in Paris Episode 8 recap: Emily learns Timothée is only 17.

At the table, Emily is horrified to learn Camille’s “surprise” is her older brother, Theo. Timothée is her 17-year-old  younger brother. The entire family learns of this little escapade and Camille’s mother asks to see Emily in private. There, she wants to know how her son performed in bed. Seriously, who wrote this episode and why?!

Once the ickfest is out of the way, Emily flies her idea about creating a secondary label for spraying champagne called “Champére,” since Camille’s mom thinks her husband is useless, it’d be a tongue-in-cheek reference. She says she’ll consider it and yet again, Emily has somehow impressed someone else with her basic marketing ideas.

As for her little tryst with Timothée, it becomes a running joke between Camille and Gabriel who can’t help but tease Emily, whilst I’m here thinking it was a pretty gross and unnecessary addition to the show.
