Fear The Walking Dead Season 6 recap: Episode 5, ‘Honey’
By Ariba Bhuvad
Fear The Walking Dead treads a heartbreaking path as tensions rise for Dwight and Sherry.
In this week’s Fear The Walking Dead episode, there is quite a bit to comprehend when it comes to the matter of the heart. We were privy to Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry’s (Christine Evangelista) long-awaited reunion just a few weeks back. Given that it was a mere few seconds we got to witness, it was exciting to see where this week’s episode was going to pick up.
It starts with them in the middle of their second honeymoon, very happy to be in one another’s arms. It’s all butterflies and rainbows, but nonetheless, there is a deep-rooted tension present between them. But we’ll get to that in a second.

She’s reminiscing with the letters she had written for Dwight while going across the country, as he reveals that he has worked long and hard to become the man he once was. The man that existed before Negan and the Saviors ruined their lives.
Their conversation is interrupted with the reminder that Al (Maggie Grace) hadn’t checked in with the Rangers. She was meant to cover for Dwight while he canoodled with Sherry, but she had missed the deadline.
Not thinking much of it, Dwight tells Sherry he wants to run away with her–away from Ginny (Colby Minifie), away from it all.
However, she’s quick to tell him that she couldn’t just run away.
But why?
Fear The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 5 recap: Sherry has a secret.
Unclear as to why Sherry is being so shady, she walks out of the room, with Dwight following soon after hearing some strange noises from the kitchen. In quite a frightening twist, Dwight finds that multiple people are in the house–wearing masks like they just hopped off the set of The Strangers.
As it turns out, Sherry is involved with this mysterious group of people. But instead of just informing Dwight of what she’s been up to this entire time, she had him kidnapped, tied in ropes, and knocked out. There are other ways of telling people things, but Sherry opted to go with the roughhousing method.
We learn that Sherry and her merry band of misfits are dedicated to taking down Ginny, as they were all once upon a time associated with her and her cruel ways. Sherry explains that she hesitated to tell Dwight because she didn’t think he’d ever want to join their cause.
Instead of trying to work things out, Sherry’s fellow members begin harassing Dwight, asking him about Ginny’s whereabouts. Threatening him that if he didn’t reveal information soon, Al would be murdered. Oh, yes, they have Al too.
Luckily for Dwight, a familiar face shows up, someone whose life he saved way back when, and someone who was more than eager to help Dwight out now–Rollie (Cory Hart). He explains that they plan to blow up the SWAT van, but Al is quick to comment that instead of trying to blow up something that is near impossible to do so, why not steal what is inside of it.
Through some serious Mission Impossible vibes, they manage to get a hold of the van, but not before the driver sees Dwight’s face before he kicks him off the van.
Fear The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 5 recap: An unexpected ally
Luckily for Dwight, he wouldn’t have to worry too much about the driver as a familiar face comes dragging him in on horseback. It’s none other than Morgan (Lennie James) who has somehow managed to increase his coolness factor ten-fold since we last saw him.
He comes bearing news of a place they can all live in together if they use their talents to do so. Sherry’s group is not all that interested and would rather focus on taking Ginny down. And herein lies the dividing factor between the groups. Within it also lies the fact that being around Sherry is bringing back parts of Dwight we haven’t seen in ages.
He’s willing to do anything to be with her, even follow her plan to kill Ginny. Dwight will not allow them to be separated again, so if this is what it takes to start their lives together, then so be it.
Fear The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 5 recap: The plan to take down Virginia takes a turn.
The plan takes a bit of a detour when Ginny decides that it would work in their favor if, during one of his check-ins, Dwight manages to bring Ginny to them. The plan is set in motion, but with each passing moment, Dwight inches away from the man he’s worked so hard to become.
In fact, he tortures the driver and even contemplates letting the dog attack him. All for what? A plan that isn’t too great in the first place? It’s a bit jarring to hear him even dismiss Morgan and Al as people that are “like” family, but not actually family. It’s a true statement but feels so distant and cruel.
It’s at this point Sherry realizes that Dwight is flipping over to the dark side, and she needs to intervene in STAT. So when Al and Morgan are thrown into lock-up for trying to steal dynamite (they could actually blow up the van, Al lied earlier), Sherry ensures that Dwight is thrown in there too. She can’t have him doing her bidding and letting go of the morals he’s created for himself.
Dwight manages to get out of lock-up and confront Sherry before she does something she regrets. As it turns out, Ginny does not show up with the crew (big surprise there), but Sherry still contemplates shooting anyway.
It’s Dwight’s interference that stops her from pulling the trigger, but in the end, she’s absolutely livid and angry with him involving himself in the whole situation.
Fear The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 5 recap: It’s all because of Negan
Before the episode closes out, Dwight and Sherry have the heart-to-heart conversation they should have had from the get-go. Sherry admits that it’s not about Ginny, as it is about Negan and her failure to stand up to him. She will be damned if she lets it happen again, but Dwight reminds her that they don’t need to be those people.
They can move on and get away from all of this, start over. But Sherry won’t change her mind, and so just as quickly as these two reunited, they once again find themselves split apart.
With that, Dwight joins Al and Morgan as they head off to their new home that Morgan has been talking up. But not before they leave a couple of walkers behind with Al and Dwight’s clothing so as to fool the Rangers into thinking they were dead.
Does that trick still work in the zombie apocalypse?
In true romantic Dwight fashion, he draws an infinity symbol before walking off to their new home, hoping that one day, Sherry will find her way back to him.
