During The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Finale Huck tries to complete her mission while Elton reunites with Silas and a presumed dead character.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond two hour Season 1 Finale takes place over the appropriately titled episodes “The Deepest Cut” and “In This Life”. As it was established in the previous episode Huck has been working with Elizabeth and the CRM to bring forth “the asset”. Huck purposely crashes the truck that evening forcing the group to walk on foot to a secure location.

Empties arrive trapped in barbed wire forcing the group to fight them off resulting with Felix hurting his ankle. When they arrive to the secure location the four split up to search the rooms, except for one that Huck explains to Iris has nothing in it except bodies. When the group decides to continue the next morning Felix fails to climb over a roadblock and the group retreats back. His ankle is now worse leaving Iris and Hope at odds over whether they should continue without him.

Hope agrees with Huck in leaving Felix behind while Iris is disgusted over the idea. She becomes more enraged when Felix agrees they should go without him. It’s at this point Iris grows suspicious of Huck causing her to argue with Hope once again.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Finale recap: Huck’s betrayal

As everyone sleeps that night Hope informs Huck that they need to leave because Iris will not leave without Felix. As the two continue onward on foot we come to find out that Hope had cracked the CRM codebook earlier, deciphering the following message: Raft Embed Agent En Route To NY W/Asset + Four All Four Expendable.

Meanwhile, Iris and Felix discover that Hope and Huck left and decide to check out the one room they haven’t searched. Sure enough no empties but plenty of supplies. Hope now believes Huck is a traitor and in an attempt to kill her they become surrounded by empties. After they work together killing the empties, Huck admits to everything. She was behind the messages from their father in the hopes they would leave. However, Huck just wanted her and Hope to leave.

She has been trying to separate the group safely since, responsible for killing Tony, harming Percy and wounding Felix’s ankle. She explains that the CRM needs to save the world, to rebuild society and they need people like Hope. She also adds that if Hope tries to run they will find her.

Iris and Felix manage to fix the truck tires and together they drive to where Hope and Huck are settling in for the night. Things escalate when Huck and Felix fight causing a fire. Before Huck can kill Felix Hope puts a gun to her head and explains to everyone why she has to go with Huck. With no choice Felix and Iris let them go. Hope and Huck arrive at their destination as Elizabeth arrives via helicopter. Elizabeth is not happy about the others even though Huck promises that they know nothing.

Elizabeth also adds that she will need to update Huck on Omaha, leading viewers to believe that Huck was unaware that the CRM killed everyone. The season finale concludes with Iris and Felix walking through the woods trying to remain hopeful that they will get Hope back. They encounter a group in which one of the members is Will. At the beginning of the second part of the season finale, Will was running from CRM soldiers. Seeing Felix and Will tearfully reunite was relieving and satisfying.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Finale recap: Elton’s journey

Elton, still distraught over the death of his mother and sister begins to destroy her manuscript. Regretting his decision he chases down the pages when he finds Percy. Wounded and exhausted Percy passes out leaving Elton to drag him to safety. Elton wants to save Percy while dealing with his hallucination at the same time.

Just as Elton discovers that Percy was shot, empties approach. Elton tries to drag Percy’s body to safety but the Percy hallucination convinces him to leave him behind. Elton, ready to give up, changes his mind and dismantles several empties killing one in the process. He finds a walkie talkie in Percy’s coat and tries calling for Felix.

However, at that exact moment, Huck answers. Before Elton can tell her where they are Percy wakes up and reveals that Huck was the one who shot him. Not long after Elton is reunited with Silas who is shocked to discover that he didn’t kill Percy or Tony. But now the trio is confused as to why Huck did this. As they try to figure out where the group might be a CRM truck pulls up. As the three try to escape Silas volunteers to stay behind and get captured so Percy and Elton have a chance.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Finale recap: Felix and Will

Through the season finale, Felix reflects on his time with Will. They first met during Huck’s security intake at Omaha and from there, their relationship grew. Felix recalled the moments of sharing his worries about Dr. Bennett up to the day Will revealed that he would be leaving with him to New York. Felix didn’t want Will to leave but Will didn’t want Felix to have to go.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Finale recap: Dr. Abbott and Dr. Bennett

One of the several cut scenes the season finale featured was between Iris and Hope’s father Dr. Bennett and Dr. Abbott. As they share a dinner it’s revealed they have become romantically involved however she has been withholding information from him. She was the doctor who has been working on the test subjects as seen in a previous episode and is aware that Hope is on her way. Dr. Bennett had informed her how talented and special Hope is and makes the mistake to add that he feels suspicious of the military. He believes they are being lied to.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Finale recap: Final Thoughts

The season finale tries to cram as much information as possible which is both effective and ineffective. It’s always interesting to see more from these characters but the scenes are so brief and constantly cut into other scenes that it makes following along a little jarring.

With that said it was a nice wrap up of the season while still leaving enough mystery to propel a second season. I remain hopeful that Huck will turn on the CRM and that Iris and Felix will somehow reunite with Elton, Percy and Silas. I am curious to see what the lab looks like in New York and how much of it we will get to see next season now that Hope will be there.
