A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 2 packs the punches as Eddie struggles to maintain his new normal.

A Million Little Things Season 3 was an emotional ride this week as Eddie finds himself in a less than ideal situation. As was revealed in the Season 3 premiere, he managed to survive the brutal hit-and-run accident but has been left paralyzed from the waist down.

As a result, he’s in a wheelchair, and become extremely dependent on Catherine and Toby to help him out with even the smallest of tasks. I commend that the writers gave Eddie such strong willpower to try and get through this, but I also appreciate that they maintain a very realistic nature about his situation.

He can put on a brave face for everyone, but at the end of the day, he’s shattered and struggling to get through this ordeal. As a result of the paralysis, Eddie is confined to a wheelchair, which he’s trying to get the hang of with everyone’s help. Unfortunately, A Million Little Things Season 3 decides to gut-punch us when Catherine and Toby rush out of the house, leaving Eddie sitting on a chair, rather than his wheelchair.

He has to spend the entire day, until Gary brings Toby home from school, on the chair. He isn’t able to make his way to the wheelchair, and thus can’t use the restroom and ends up peeing on himself. He asks Gary to help him cover it up because he does not want Toby to see what has happened. Like the best friend he is, Gary pretends to spill water all over Eddie to cover up the pee stains on his jeans.

Later in the episode, Catherine finds Eddie’s pants and learns of what happened. Heartbroken and upset, she tells Eddie she cannot just leave him at home and go to work, so he promises her that they can get an in-home healthcare worker to take care of his needs.

Again, I must commend the writers for executing this entire sequence so flawlessly. You can really feel the pain and frustration Eddie is feeling, and the embarrassment that is overwhelming him. He can’t help but think this is karma for his past actions, but little does he know, he was the target of someone’s plan…

Speaking of which, Alex’s dad, aka the pastor who actually hit Eddie and ran, shows up at his doorstep. When Toby answers the door, there’s a brief moment where we assume the worst is about to happen. Luckily, the pastor does not kidnap Toby, but for a moment there, it seemed like that was his intention.

And this isn’t the last we’ll see of him either…

A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 2 recap: This is what friends are for

Eager to cheer Eddie up, Rome and Gary decide to take him out for a game of basketball. Sure, it’s not like how it was before, but they encourage him to incorporate normalcy into his life. It’s a very kind gesture from the best friends anyone could ever ask for.

I love the focus on their friendship time and time again, it’s truly the heart of A Million Little Things, and I’ve loved watching them mature and grow together, despite their differences and their personal issues.

A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 2 recap: Gary and Darcy

Gary and Darcy’s relationship has been a pleasant surprise, and while I wasn’t sure about her stepping into Maggie’s place, I’ve grown to admire her. Darcy really manages to win our hearts during this week’s episode when, despite her reservations about Eddie and his past indiscretions, she offers to be his physical therapist after the whole pee incident.

She’s not doing it for Eddie, but for Gary who loves his dear friend and wants him to heal. If there was ever a Girlfriend of the Year reward, it should go to her, because not only does she decide to help Eddie, she is comfortable with Gary calling back Maggie, who voices her concern about Rome ever since the adoption process went kapoot.

A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 2 recap: Maggie bonds with her new flatmate

loved this part of the episode because it allowed us to see Maggie outside of her comfort zone. In the middle of her heartbreak, she’s moved away to a different country, and unexpectedly, finds a friend in her new roommate, Jamie.

The two discover a trunk that belongs to the guy who was supposed to be there and the one Maggie replaces. Instead of trying to return it, Jamie convinces Maggie to open the trunk and look through the guy’s belongings.

From there unfolds a day of silly fun and antics, something Maggie really needed after the Gary debacle. I am so here for a Jamie and Maggie friendship–who else teared up when he opened up to her about his mother’s death and going to therapy? It is truly a heartfelt and raw scene.

A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 2 recap: Rome and Regina’s troubles

Ever since the adoption went south and Regina refused to adopt another baby, the couple has been drifting apart. They each have their own reasons, and while both of them valid, it has prevented them from understanding one another.

Despite Rome’s movie making progress with his casting and writing, Regina seems to be on the outside looking in and tries very hard to get through. She manages to do so for a brief moment in which the only thing they can agree on is that they are on different pages.

We can only hope that they find their way back to one another sooner rather than later–please?
