The news comes hot on the heels of another casting announcement from the show—Savannah Welch was recently revealed to be playing Commissioner Barbara Gordon. Though fans new that they would be seeing Gordon in Titans Season 3, Tim Drake’s arrival is a complete surprise.
Lycurgo is an up-and-coming actor, appearing in numerous shorts, as well as on the critically acclaimed TV series I May Destroy You, created by Michaela Cole.
Interestingly, Lycurgo has been spotted in the trailer for The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, and starring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz.
The actor took to Twitter to celebrate the casting news.
From the tweet, it appears that Lycurgo’s Tim Drake will only be appearing in Titans Season 3, and not in The Batman.
Titans Season 3: Who is Tim Drake?
The first two seasons of Titans followed the first two Robins—Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson, who started off as Robin and ended Season 2 as Nightwing, and Curran Walters’ Jason Todd, Dick’s replacement.
It has already been announced that Jason Todd will be taking on the moniker of Red Hood this season, which would leave the role of Robin open for Tim Drake to step in.
This tracks with events in the DC Comics, where Jason Todd was murdered by the Joker, and Tim Drake took on the role of Robin, before eventually moving away from Batman’s shadow to become Red Robin.
Recently, he took on the moniker Drake in the comics, but that change in name has been dropped and the character is set to return to using the name Robin.
Tim Drake has partnered with numerous superheroes since his debut in 1989. He trained with and worked alongside Batman for years, but also joined Batwoman’s team in Detective Comics and led the Young Justice team through intergalactic adventures.
The tech-genius among the Robins, Tim Drake is also street-smart and has deductive abilities almost on par with Batman. He is described as having grown up on mean streets but never losing his heroism as a result.
Lycurgo’s Tim Drake could bring some much-needed lightness to Titans, which has often been bogged down with a gritty tone. An optimistic hero, particularly in the wake of Todd’s transformation into Red Hood, will be just what the third season needs.
