As Peacock’s Crystal Lake season one nears the end, we’re that much closer to answers. So far, we’ve seen how Pam’s grief turns her into a cold-blooded killer. She’s escalated from self-defense murders to revenge murders, yet every slash was right on point with her horror icon arc.

In episode 6, she finally sits down to tell Levon and Brianna the truth about her past and how it connects to Bellflowers. Now, in this episode, we journey back to before, during, and after Pam’s trauma at Bellflower and Jason’s birth.

New York and Bellflower in 1959

Pamela Scott makes her live singing debut on the Jack Paar Tonight Show in New York City in 1959. She’s singing beautifully when she starts bleeding and collapses. The doctor says she’s having a miscarriage, but later on, when she meets with the Bellflower doctor (because the child’s father works at Bellflower), he finds a heartbeat. They even tell her they think the baby is a boy. If she wants to have this baby, then the clinical trials are the best next step. They take a moment to think things over, and he proposes to her. He wants to take on this leap together so they move into Bellflower housing, and Pam starts her prenatal care.

Trish Fairfield welcomes her to the neighborhood with a cake. She’s four months along and in the clinical trial, too. They laugh over cake and talk about what comes after the babies arrive. Unfortunately, their children won’t grow up together because Pam is only here for the treatment. Trish wishes she wasn’t getting the treatment, whereas Pam had a choice in the matter. Trish worries her that the treatments are bad, even though Trish’s husband, Dave, tells her she’s a big baby about it.

Pam goes into an exam room packed with machines and an exam table. She’s guided onto the platform and strapped to the exam table by the doctors. The baby has a steady heartbeat as they begin the treatment. By securing her, they keep the baby’s heartbeat steady and alert. The machine sends a needle into her stomach as she tries to hold still. Much later, Pam is surrounded by other women at her baby shower when she notices Trish off by herself and quiet. She’s tired since the last few weeks are coming up, but it’s more the pills they have her taking. Their moment is cut short when Dave picks her up, and he forces her into the car outside for her next treatment.

Pam’s husband gets a call in the middle of the night about a stillbirth. Pam rushes to Trish’s side once they are at the hospital. Trish feels like her pills and bad thoughts are to blame for why her daughter turned out so ugly. She doesn’t think she could have loved her. She’s so distraught that she breaks glass and stabs her neck. Before we fully know what happens, Pam collapses to the ground in pain and wakes up hours later after giving birth. Her doctor says the baby is fine; she just doesn’t remember because she was given medicine to put her to sleep. The baby is in the nursery. We know from Trish’s nightstand that it was Friday the 13th when Pam went into labor.

Pam brings Jason home

Two months later, Pam and Elias Wittering (Hamish Linklater) bring Jason home. Elias introduces Pam to his secretary, Nora, who will be helping him out at the office and who Pam can contact if Elias is busy. They talk about how Jason requires a different form of feeding, and Pam isn’t very good at it now. Nora has a 26-year-old daughter whom she will be taking care of for the rest of her life, so she understands challenging parenting skills. Elias has Nora all set up in the nursery, and then they are called back into work. Pam and Jason are alone for the first time. Elias will be gone all weekend for work, but Nora will be a phone call away.

Although Nora and Elias tell her she’ll be fine with Jason alone, it doesn’t stay that way. Jason won’t stop crying, and that leaves Pam exhausted. She tries everything until putting him in a bath helps on Sunday. With the water still running, Pam falls asleep beside the tub. Little Jason sinks until Elias pulls him out of the water when he arrives home.

It takes a while, but Jason starts breathing again. Still, Elias and everyone at Bellflower are worried about Pam being alone with Jason and put her on medication for what she experienced. They add a home nurse to their support system so Pam can recover. That leads Jason to spend more time at the Bellflower clinic to help him recover.

Jason’s 4th birthday party

Everyone has arrived at Jason’s fourth birthday party except Elias and Jason. Pam tells Nora she doesn’t understand why Elias insisted on taking Jason to therapy on a Saturday. After coming outside, Pam takes the doctor inside to lie down after taking a fall. She’s at the door when Elias arrives home with Jason and the home nurse. The home nurse takes Jason outside for food and to find his friends.

Pam gets onto Elias for Jason missing most of his birthday party, but Elias explains it away with the clinic needing to run more tests. He promises that Jason will be fine even though the medications are giving him stomach aches. Elias guilts her into taking medicine and resting at the clinic to explain away the worry. His friend drags him away from her as she heads back out to the party. The kids run out of the storm shelter ahead of Jason, who is holding a little machine as he starts bleeding from his head. Blood and hair fall into Pam’s hand as she checks on Jason, leaving her concerned.

Elias returns home without Jason but tells Pam he’ll be fine. He can’t explain all the testing and seems frustrated by his wife’s worries. He keeps telling her that he’s a sick kid and he’s under the best care, but she knows better. Bellflower is making him sick but continues to test him for everything under the sun. She begs her husband to get another opinion, but he threatens to divorce her and take full custody of Jason if she messes with the progress they’ve made on Jason’s care. Being a jerk, he throws her medication and accident with Jason in the tub in her face when she asks how a judge would grant him full custody of Jason and ban her from seeing him.

Despite their struggles, he tells her to get some rest so he can walk into the party this weekend with a healthy wife. All eyes will be on them since he is the keynote speaker. She agrees by walking away silently and going to Jason’s room. In his room, she finds drawings that alert her to get her little boy out of Bellflower’s hands. She must put on a brave face and go to the party, which is in the same location where they are keeping Jason.

Pam’s plan

Elias and Pam walk into the party as if nothing is wrong. She smiles at the guests until she sees one of the doctors and grabs his keys from him. The same keys he had on him at Jason’s birthday party. Before Elias can steal her away for a dance, she stuffs the keys into her purse for safekeeping. He tries to apologize and explain that he hasn’t been able to share things due to the company policies in place on the research.

After tonight and his speech, he’ll be able to tell her everything he has been doing for their family. Later on in the evening, Pam disappears to the “restroom” and is still missing when Elias does his keynote speech. Since her chair is marked with her wrap, he notices her absence and goes looking for her after the speech.

While he is on stage showing all the research Bellflower has done on Jason, Pam finds the lab door. She sneaks in, past lab techs, and into a room where the most terrible things live. Random body parts of kids like Jason, and ones that are kind of alive. Then, she finds Jason strapped to a table, and she comforts him. The head doctor comes in and tries to stop her from taking Jason. She doesn’t let him get her. Instead of leaving a witness to her plan, Pam takes her revenge out on the doctor, drilling in through the mouth with his own tool.

She scoops up Jason and runs out of the room and straight into Nora. She warns her that Elias is looking for her. Nora gives Pam her car keys, says she’ll tell Elias she stole them, and apologizes for not seeing what was happening sooner. With one final glimpse at Elias through the glass window in the door, Pam leaves with Jason and drives through the night to an unknown location. She sings Jason to sleep as she drives.
