The Gilded Age season 4 premiere in November 2026 is getting closer each day, and fans can't wait for our Sunday nights to be filled with the delicious drama on HBO. But months ahead of the official launch of the latest season, we're already getting hopeful for a possible season 5 renewal.
Following HBO and HBO Max's incredible showing at the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, HBO's content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys spoke with Deadline and shared a number of updates on fan-favorite shows like The White Lotus, Heated Rivalry, The Last of Us, and The Gilded Age. Bloys all but confirmed the period drama will live on past the upcoming fourth season.
The Gilded Age season 5 already has a positive update
While confirming that The Last of Us season 3 will be the final season of the fan-favorite hit, Bloys was asked what the case would be with The Gilded Age. Thankfully, he didn't have any negative updates to share about the show's future and in fact stated that HBO's team has already begin conversations with the show's team about the future and next steps.
After showering The Gilded Age season 4 with praise, calling it "excellent," Bloys confirmed that there are currently talks going on about season 5 and an announcement could even be coming soon: "We are talking to them about what a fifth season would look like, stay tuned on that."
Oh, we will definitely be staying tuned! Bloys' comments are far from an official renewal, but they're as close to one that you can get before the formal announcement is made. Last season, The Gilded Age reached new ratings heights and continued to climb to series-best numbers throughout season 3, a trend that's completely expected to continue once season 4 launches this fall.
In his same conversation with Deadline, Bloys fielded questions about Morgan Spector's availability, seeing as he will be starring in the forthcoming Netflix series The Secret of Secrets alongside Rebecca Hall. Production on the series is currently underway, which shouldn't interfere with the actor's availability in a potential fifth season of the HBO drama, and Bloys confirmed as much.
"I think that we will try to work around. It’s a big cast, and they’re a very busy cast. Hopefully, we can work around everybody’s schedule because I think everybody loves making it," Bloys explained
The Gilded Age cast does remain busy in between season. After all, Carrie Coon managed to film a season of fellow HBO series The White Lotus in between seasons, as she starred in the Mike White series' third season just before the period drama's third season premiered. The rest of the extensive ensemble take other film and television roles outside of their work on The Gilded Age.
Given the critical acclaim, rating growth, and awards recognition the series has been achieving for its first three seasons, there's no doubt that season 4 will propel the show into its biggest era of success so far in its run. But the renewal decision doesn't appear to be based on ratings at this point and more based on the stories creator Julian Fellowes wants to tell.
