The post-apocalyptic drama in Silo is edging towards a thrilling season finale. A lot has happened in both the past and the present since Juliette lost and regained her memories. The story has been going back and forth between the inception of the silos and the brink of their very destruction.
We learn that an eccentric trillionaire and a U.S. senator came up with the idea of building a sanctuary of sorts for humans in case of an event of mass extinction. Per Stenson and Rosalind Thurman, they tried to recruit Helen and Daniel into joining their effort in building silos as a backup plan in case Iran or any other country decides to release nukes.
However, both Helen and Daniel refuse to join the project and instead leave by helicopter, only to return years later for the silos’ inauguration event. The world knows about the silo project that has been fully operational for about a year. We also learn that Helen is currently pregnant and Daniel has been building ‘"bridges."
Apparently, Daniel and Helen are there to visit, but everything about it sounds fishy. When they talk about breakfast plans the following morning, Anna seems uncomfortable and brushes the whole thing. When Daniel and Helen go on the tour, they are separated, which seems deliberate. However, what truly convolutes the situation is Daniel’s involvement. He may have distanced himself in the past, but we think he was never really out of the equation, and this theory may prove it.
Daniel could have secretly been helping build the silos
It was established early in Silo season 3 that Daniel is a talented architect who was proclaimed the ‘Hero of New Orleans.’ He was a standout among 500 Army engineers deployed for a project and was a key player in inventing a drill that could dig without disturbing the soil above.
Thurman was thoroughly impressed with Daniel’s skills, and that’s why they wanted him to head the silo project. However, he refused, but Per Stenson still used his idea to build fifty drills and leave them there once the digging was done. Now, we think that it wasn’t as simple as the show made it to be when Daniel refused Per’s offer.
He has been established as the fundamental part of building the silos in the books, so it would be a huge shift if the series didn’t circle back to this key detail. What we think really happened is that, if not Helen, Daniel was subjected to the forgetting drugs and was recruited into the Silo project without his knowledge.
There’s a developing theory that the “bridges” Daniel was working on were actually the silos and that his memories have been manipulated to make him believe he has been living another life. How else would he be on board to stay in Silo 1 if his beliefs and memories haven’t been tempered with? Moreover, if he wasn’t that important, people wouldn’t have been insisting that he visit and stay.
Silo season 3, episode 9 had several instances where it was too obvious that the higher-ups- Thurman, Stenson, and Henry—wanted Daniel to stay with them despite him wanting to go to Helen. They knew exactly what would happen, and they needed Daniel with them in Silo 1. This could only have been because his importance as an architect wasn’t in general but specific to the creation of the silos.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Silo season 3 finale throws us a twist in which it was the plan all along that Daniel, like his sister, had become part of the silo system a long time ago. On the other hand, executing this theory would be tricky since the forgetting drugs may or may not work in the said manner. It would have been a challenge to separate Daniel’s life that way, but it wouldn’t be impossible because Juliette is the product of that experiment.
He is rumored to be the voice behind the Algorithm
Another reason many fans think Daniel had a huge hand in building the silos, beyond designing the drill, is that they believe the voice behind the Algorithm is Daniel’s. In episode 9, Bernard makes a critical discovery that the AI isn’t actually a machine, but there’s a person like them sitting behind it.
He feels that if they are dealing with a person, that person can be manipulated. He thinks so after discovering that the Algorithm was agitated when talking to him, and Camille felt the same when the voice consoled her. What’s more, one can’t deny the uncanny resemblance between Daniel’s and the Algorithm’s voice, especially since it hasn’t been credited in the show.
With only one episode left to resolve some of the biggest mysteries in television history, it’s likely we’ll know about Daniel’s involvement before the season wraps up. The parallel storytelling in Silo has been rewarding, given how drastic a shift it is from the source material. Either Daniel is or isn’t the voice behind the Algorithm; fans would be invested in knowing about his fate after the blast.
