Will True Detective take years to fully understand?
By Josh Hill
The first season of True Detective was such a hit, it’s hard to imagine that the second season will live up to the hype. At least initially, the new season is more than likely going to polarize fans, as some will want one thing and the others will be satisfied with what they got.

It raises the question of how long will it take before True Detective is fully understood by everyone — meaning, is it so deep of a series that it’s going to take years to fully soak up?
Stanley Kubrick comes to mind in this instance, as it took fans and critics no less than a decade to fully understand each one of his works. Look at every Kubrick film ever made, critics blast the films when they come out but ten years later they are the most significant films ever made.
Even 1999’s Eyes Wide Shut is now getting serious love from film scholars, and that might be what happens to True Detective. Where critics took a decade to warm up to Kubrick films, True Detective might be so deep that it takes us a while to figure it all out.
There are still theories about what Rust was seeing and if the show is a supernatural thriller or not. Maybe that’s the way it should be though as somethings may be better left unexplained and constantly discussed.
