True Detective: Where Does Jim Carrey Spoof Rank?
By Josh Hill
This year will eventually see cameras roll on the new season of the hit HBO series True Detective but until then, we’re forced to enjoy spoofs as out main source of True Detective enjoyment. That’s not a bad thing though, as some of the spoofs we’re seeing are actually pretty good.

Saturday Night Live got in on the fun — sort of — by spoofing not True Detective but the star of the show Matthew McConaughey and his Lincoln car commercials. Jim Carrey was host of the show this week and he put on the best McConaughey impression he could for the skit.

The question now is, where does this rank among True Detective spoofs? It’s technically not even a spoof of the show, but the striking resemblance between Rust and the speeches McConaughey gives in both the show and commercial have linked the two.
Carrey has some good lines in the skit, such as commenting on the nonsensical approach the speeches take to selling the car, as well as making fun of how McConaughey went from winning an Oscar to doing a car commercial.
Overall, it was a great spoof and while it’s still not as good as the Ross Marquand spoof or the Jimmy Kimmel bit, this ranks up there with the better spoofs we’ve seen.
