Matthew McConaughey Explains Interstellar As Rust Cohle

Matthew McConughey is making the rounds to promote yet another high profile project he’s the star of, as Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar hits theaters this weekend.

One of the best working actors today is Matthew McConaughey, who has gone from being a dopey whore for romantic comedy paychecks to an Oscar winning, Emmy nominated star. We all knew he had it in him, which was why it was so disappointing to lose out on basically the entire 2000s with him phoning it in for easy paychecks.

But now that he has financial security, McConaughey is digging into the roles he really wants, and he’s not forgetting them once he’s gone. True Detective was a smash hit for Matthew McConaughey and many believe that the star won his Oscar in large part due to the combination of his stellar performance in Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective.

McConaughey isn’t committing to play the role of Rust again, but he’s not forgetting the role that made him into what he is today — or at least helped. In an interview with IGN, McConaughey didn’t go full Rust, but he gave an interpretation of Interstellar from Rust’s point of view.

"“He wouldn’t say anything,” he claimed. “But if he was pushed by Marty, about the prophecies of Interstellar, Rus wouldn’t say this… someone would have to say it for him, but he’d probably say ‘I told you so’.”"

That’s a classic response and it’s probably spot on with what Rust would really think. Interstellar isn’t an easy movie to understand, as it’s use of quantum physics, worm holes and it’s venture into the vast cosmos is both terrifying and exhilarating.

Plus, it’s exactly what Rust was trying to explain to us the whole first season of True Detective.
