True Detective Season 2: Why is There No Premiere Date?

facebooktwitterreddit

Just about the only bit of True Detective news still being kept under lock and key is season two’s premiere date. The date has bounced around from summer 2015 to this upcoming January. Recently, however, there has been no talk on the matter. Even though all the leads are finally cast and production is officially underway, we are without a release date.

Now, that’s not the belittle the other little bits that we’d all love to know, such as who will be directing the other episodes and what is to become of the music, but the premiere date is an importing detail that will be of interest to the majority of viewers both potential and returning.

It’s impossible to say why HBO hasn’t announced a date yet, and the safest bet would be to say it’s because that they themselves don’t know. That may not be true even if it’s the most diplomatic answer that we could give.

There are many details about True Detective that HBO likely has hammered down but aren’t yet comfortable announcing, and this is sure to be one of them.

In all likelihood, HBO is still shooting for a January 2015 premiere for True Detective’s second season. With everyone cast, a director chosen for at least the first two episodes and filming beginning, January is seemingly likelier and likelier. That wasn’t the case at one time, but we’re happy that it is now.

It’s possible that HBO is going to want to make something of a splash with True Detective’s premiere date. An announcement as part of a teaser could be one way to go, and that would mean a few weeks time until we have it. January isn’t far off, but it’s very doable if production is as put together as it currently seems.
