True Detective Gets Honorable Mention at Vox
It’s officially 2015, but that hasn’t stopped blogs and magazines from publishing their 2014 best-of lists. We even conducted our own poll to find out what our reader’s though of True Detective’s debut season.
True Detective has been mentioned and made more lists more often than not, but in the case of Vox’s list, it didn’t have enough to make the final cut. Though it is among good company.

Vox put together a list of the 20 best shows that were deemed worthy but didn’t make their standard must-see list of 2014.
It’s there that we find True Detective, snuggled between Silicon Valley and Veep. The list is unranked and is not genre-specific.
Vox’s views on True Detective once again point out the failings of the ending:
"“The last couple of episodes of True Detective let me down, but around the middle of the show’s season, I was as into this as anything else out there, which has to count for something.”"
It does indeed count for something. These lists have let us take a step back and examine True Detective once again, perhaps more critically than we did the first time around. True Detective’s failings don’t stop it from being one of the best of the 2014, which is important to note.
Other dramas on the list worth mentioning are Boardwalk Empire, The Missing, Penny Dreadful, and Game of Thrones. Fargo was fortunate enough to make the standard list of the 30 best shows in 2014.
