Fargo’s showrunner Noah Hawley is ready to talk about the second season of Fargo, once again beating True Detective to the punch. Hawley, when compared to True Detective’s Nic Pizzolatto, is a tad more open. Entertainment Weekly recently sat down with Hawley to talk Fargo, but True Detective managed to slip in as well.

Fargo and True Detective may have become rivals, but it’s a situation that was created outside of either series’ control. EW took the opportunity to bring this up with Noah Hawley and get his opinion on the matter.

When asked what Hawley thinks of True Detective and if such a rivalry even really exists, he had this to say:

"“I don’t really know what that is. I went to an Austin film festival this year and spent a lot of time with [True Detective season one director] Cary Fukunaga, who is a true gentleman and artist…I don’t think there’s a rivalry. We weren’t even submitted in the same category at the Emmys. It’s not like we were competing with each other. We’re two anthological shows…but I certainly don’t feel a rivalry…”"

Entertainment Weekly does note that this interview took place before The Golden Globe nominations were announced in which Fargo and True Detective would actually be competing against each other. It’s an interesting look into a rivalry that’s been entirely manufactured.

Things originally began to heat up when FX head John Landgraf lashed out at True Detective over the Emmy’s. But there doesn’t seem to be any actual beef between Fargo and True Detective, which is preferable since they’re both fantastic shows in their own right.

Noah Hawley has created a fantastic series with Fargo, and maybe eventually we’ll see similar interviews with Nic Pizzolatto. Those will probably be few and far between, however, since the two showrunners are very different.
