True Detective Season 2: Are We Close to a Trailer?

At this point in late January it’s practically a forgone conclusion that the second season of True Detective will premiere in the summer. There is always the possibility of True Detective announcing an April premiere alongside Game of Thrones, but that’s not very likely.

A much closer goal, however, would be a trailer for season two. True Detective season two has been filming for several months at this point and there is even a potential promotional package out there in the wild.

Today, EW premiered a trailer for season three of Hannibal. Hannibal has moved to the summer for its third season, and the release of a trailer makes us pine for a True Detective teaser all the more.

Realistically, a trailer could have come out earlier — teasers are frequently sent out before filming has wrapped. But that doesn’t feel much like True Detective’s style.

It wouldn’t be out of the question to expect for the first advertising push to come in February. Considering that filming started around late October or early November, February feels right. Especially if they’re going to push for a summer premiere.

Whether or not we’ll see a viral ad push on the same level of Game of Thrones has yet to be seen, but it’s unlikely. A 15-second teaser seems more in like with True Detective, as it’s been a much more private production.

Though that doesn’t mean that HBO won’t concoct some unique marketing strategy, but don’t expect the open-ness of the Game of Thrones team.

It feels as if we’re almost at the end of a road of story when it comes to True Detective. Things should start picking up soon. But until then, you can relive the trailer to True Detective’s first season below. At least we have these new leaked photos to drool over.
