Could There Ever be a True Detective Super Bowl Commercial?

The Super Bowl is this Sunday and that means football fans and non-fans alike will be glued to their televisions. For fans of football it’s the ultimate showdown of the year. For non-fans it offers famously some of the best commercials that can be seen on TV.

The Super Bowl is the time when companies spend the most money to make sure their ad is seen by a huge amount of people. It is statistically one of the most expensive ad blocks on TV and many use it as a way to show off big trailers, some special made for the event. Could True Detective ever be a part of something like that?

To answer that question we have to look at HBO’s priorities and past Super Bowls. HBO is not famous for showing off the goods during the Super Bowl, and True Detective might not even rank high enough for them to spend the cash.

If HBO were to ever premiere a new trailer during an event like the Super Bowl, it’s a safe bet to say that it would be for Game of Thrones and not True Detective.

Not only would it not suit True Detective’s style, but Game of Thrones gets quadruple the ratings of True Detective. True Detective may be HBO’s rising star, but it’s nothing compared to Game of Thrones. Though both series have in the past been ignored by award shows, so there is that.

Although you shouldn’t expect to see a True Detective commercial during the Super Bowl, it still offers a great way to see new exclusive movie trailers. If you’re into that sort of thing. We still don’t even have an official premiere date for season two yet, but a trailer can’t be that far away at this point.
