Report: True Detective Wins Big at WGA Awards

We admit it, at this point we didn’t expect to be writing a headline in which True Detective “wins big” at anything. When it comes to the heavy-hitter awards this season, True Detective has consistently struck out. But the same wasn’t necessarily true for the smaller guild awards, in which True Detective has managed to take home a few so far.

And now we can officially add two wins at the WGA awards to that list. The Writer’s Guild of America have chosen to recognize True Detective not once, but twice, as reported by Variety.

When it came to television, True Detective took home one of the biggest awards of the night: Best Drama Series. For the win, True Detective went up against Game of Thrones, The Good Wife, House of Cards, and Mad Men.

But sole writer Nic Pizzolatto was able to trump them all. True Detective has effectively been able to bounce back from its awards slump thanks in part to the WGA awards. Who’d have thunk it?

The WGA awards recognized True Detective in one other category: Best New Series. This is an award that True Detective only has a single shot at, so it’s a meaningful win. It beat out The Affair, The Knick, Silicon Valley, and Transparent.

Even though it’s like pulling teeth to get True Detective’s actors any awards — Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have both consistently lost — True Detective keeps pulling in wins from all over the place. Its losing days are most definitely over.

Now if we can only get some actor wins for season two.
