True Detective’s impressive losing streak is officially over. Even though it didn’t score a single win from the major award shows, it has received much love from the guilds. Well, all except the Actor’s Guild. Over the weekend True Detective‘s creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto managed to take home two awards for both Best Drama and Best New Series at the Writer’s Guild Awards.

Nic Pizzolatto was on-hand to accept the award for Best Drama and gave a short speech. He was his usual sober self with a dash of self-deprecation thrown in for good measure. Pizzolatto doesn’t see himself as being in competition with other writers, but does feel that an award is better than “hate mail.”

Last year True Detective was at the center of two controversies — one involving possible plagiarism and the other for not writing strong female characters. Both of them have faded into the background as True Detective continues production on its second season, again with Nic Pizzolatto as the sole writer.

Two wins for True Detective at the WGA awards help soothe the burn from losing out on a DGA — Director’s Guild — award. This also marked a real appearance from Nic Pizzolatto who has been silent for some time concerning True Detective’s second season. He was previously seen at the Golden Globe’s afterparty with Matthew McConaughey and Vince Vaughn.
