The CDG — Costume Designer’s Guild — is the last guild to present awards before the Oscars. When one thinks True Detective, costume design isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind. But perhaps that’s all part of the artistry; it’s done so well that you don’t even think about it.
Though that awesome Pink Floyd shirt that Woody Harrelson wears from the Division Bell tour does spring to mind. Hmmm.
True Detective won for Outstanding Contemporary Televisions Series. The costume design in True Detective is not only indicative of the time periods, but it feels natural and unobtrusive. Other winners in television included Game of Thrones, and American Horror Story: Freak Show.
Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Into the Woods were the three films that took the top spots. Birdman’s director Alejandro González Iñárritu was initially in talks to direct True Detective’s first season before dropping to do this film. So far it seems to be working out well for both parties.
