Report: HBO Now Launching Exclusively on Apple Devices

Now too long ago we brought your HBO’s announcement of their stand-alone streaming service, HBO Now. During yesterday’s Apple announcement the official details about HBO Now were finally unveiled, including price and availability.

It’s kind of a mixed bag.

More from HBO

For the time being, HBO Now will be exclusive to Apple devices. You will be able to view content or a Mac or PC, but according to Engadget an Apple device will actually be needed to create an account for now.

Partnering with Apple does make a certain kind of sense; HBO stated that their service would be a premium offering.

HBO Now will be priced at $14.99 and will start with a 30-day trial. It’s an obvious effort to appeal to cord-cutters and to cut down on piracy rates, though the price is a little off-putting. Although HBO Now is exclusive to Apple, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it opened up to other services in the future.

We know that there are many True Detective fans in the UK, but the HBO situation across the pond is a little more complicated. The Independent is reporting that there has been no word on HBO Now for the UK. Apple owners hoping to get in on the action will have to wait a bit longer for details.

Are there any True Detective fans out there that would consider picking up HBO Now? Or is the price just to expensive? Don’t hesitate to let us know!

HBO Now will launch in April for the premiere of the fifth season of Game of Thrones.
