And that has proven to be very, so sweetly true.
Not only are the ads themselves very reminiscent of Matthew McConaughey’s Rust Cohle character, but they’re also delightfully pretentious. That leaves a lot of room to mess around.
The most famous spoof to come out of the Lincoln ads was the Jim Carrey spoof on SNL, a role that he reprised on the SNL 40th anniversary show.
But now we have what could be the best Matthew Mcconaughey Lincoln spoof so far, and it’s all due to simplicity. YouTube user RageinTheFaradayCage spliced a few of the Lincoln clips together and dubbed over classic Rust Cohle dialogue form True Detective.
The end result is a deliciously meta spoof of both True Detective and the McConaughey commercials. The bar on Lincoln spoofs has officially been raised, so consider this a challenge to fellow creative True Detective fans everywhere.
While this is also a worthy way to spend a few minutes of your day, we also suggest spending an hour or more and watching Matthew McConaughey watch the rain. Yup.
