Is True Detective Losing It’s Momentum With Long Production?

There is no doubting that the first season of the HBO series True Detective was a cultural phenomenon, but is the delay in production on the second season wearing that shine off the show?

It’s hard to say when things start to turn sour, as you only know something has truly passed its expiration date after it’s too late. You can go back and check in hindsight where things went wrong, like with something such as The Simpsons, but in the moment it’s not an immediate epiphany that something we love is eroding itself.

The series is finally filming, which is a major win, but it took long enough for that to happen. That’s something that is concerning to fans as there isn’t as much hype for the show now as there was in the past.

The show has gone with a controversial cast, it is taking forever and (almost) a year to get things rolling behind the scenes and frustration is mounting.

Of course, just like a athlete or an actor who falls out of the public’s graces comes back with a solid performance, True Detective will mend mostly all wounds with a solid second season. Jus teaser footage will make people happy, but when you give fans time to think about things, the results are usually not good.

This is just a lull for True Detective and it’s something fans haven’t experienced. Go talk to Game of Thrones fans before throwing a fit about not getting enough offseason information about a show. Then again, at least that series is almost done filming where True Detective’s finale perjured before Game of Thrones started their fourth season and cameras still aren’t rolling.
