The Second City Does True Detective (Video)
Some would say that the “golden age” of the True Detective spoof is over. The high-profile spoofs have come and gone. But those people would be dead wrong. The spoofs are still going strong, with the first True Detective spoof released into the wild. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about.

What we’re here to talk about is The Second City, Chicago’s venerated improv group. They’ve finally thrown their hat in the ring with their own True Detective spoof, drawing on the first season — and Rust Cohle in particular.
Yes, Cohle may be considered “easy” territory, but that doesn’t mean good work can’t still be done.
This new spoof, titled “True Dadtective,” features a typical dad trying to explain to his wife what happened the day before. Basically, it’s brilliant. It has high production value — for a two-minute spoof — and shows what The Second City are capable of. It even features fake quotes from the likes of Slate, Entertainment Weekly, and Nic Pizzolatto himself.
“What the heck is Carcosa?” the man’s wife asks. “Carcosa? is that what I said? I meant Costco.” And really, that should be the only prodding you need to check it out. Don’t be afraid to swing by parts one and two of our top True Detective spoofs, and if part three is ever to be, expect to see “True Dadtective” on it.
