Fargo Beats True Detective at the 74th Annual Peabody Awards
Award season was particularly hard for True Detective. It managed to be snubbed by just about every major award ceremony, but in the end was able to pull in a slew of several smaller guild awards. And it’s not quite over yet, as True Detective was recently nominated for a BAFTA.

When True Detective doesn’t win something it’s not necessarily news, considering that The Peabody Awards doesn’t announce nominations beforehand like most award shows do. The reason that True Detective’s loss at the 74th Peabody Awards is news is because Fargo, True Detective’s main rival, walked away with a win.
The rivalry between Fargo and True Detective is many things, and silly is one of them. The two shows can co-exist perfectly fine, and people are allowed to be fans of both. The so-called rivalry stretches back to the 2014 Emmy awards, and even further than that, other award shows that didn’t know how to properly classify the two.
Fargo is destined to garner more award recognition from True Detective, at least when talking in terms of each show’s fist seasons. This is because it’s easier to swallow and has an arguably better ending. It may not be by much, but Fargo’s first season is stronger than True Detective’s.
The good thing about the two of them being anthology shows is that the contest essentially resets itself once they both start their second seasons. True Detective has what it takes to take home a prestigious Peabody Award, but when compared directly to Fargo’s first season — if that’ even how this decision was made — it comes up a little short.
We have high hopes for True Detective’s second season and that it will be able to turn it around at the major award ceremonies. But only time will tell on that one, and we have a long way to before then.
The Peabody Awards ceremony will take place on May 31st.
