HBO orders marijuana-themed comedy High Maintenance from web to series
In perhaps the most fitting announcement ever made on 4/20, HBO ordered a comedy about a marijuana dealer for a six-episode run.

The show in question is called High Maintenance (also a weed joke, I think), and it’s already made a name for itself on the web, where creators Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld have made a name for themselves airing episodes on Vimeo. It ended up becoming Vimeo’s first original series, and it attracted enough attention to catch HBO’s eye.
“High Maintenance has proven to be one of today’s most highly acclaimed online comedies,” HBO’s Michael Lombardo told Deadline. “We are thrilled to bring this sophisticated and clever series to our HBO audience.”
High Maintenance focuses on Sinclair’s weed-dealing character, “The Guy,” but the real focus is on the quirky characters he calls customers and friends. Previous seasons of the show will be offered on HBO, as well as HBO Now and HBO Go.
Though HBO gets most of its props these days for its stable of dramas, it’s been beefing up its comedy offerings as well. Ballers, which stars Dwayne Johnson, is getting ready to premier this summer, while the cable outlet also recently ordered Divorce, a new vehicle for Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker. With its pre-existing fan base, expect High Maintenance to slot in among those high-profile projects quite nicely.
