Rachel McAdams Talks True Detective with Marie Claire

For a while there, Vince Vaughn was the de-facto mouthpiece for True Detective. It wasn’t necessarily done on purpose, but that tends to happen while on a press tour. Colin Farrell also gave an interview or two, but this is the first we’ve heard from Rachel McAdams regarding her role in season two.

There’s not that much here, but Marie Claire was able to drum up some details. Her enthusiasm for the role is very obvious. She also explains her character in a way that’s sure to make many people happy:

"“I love that she’s not the girlfriend or the wife. She doesn’t really care what everyone thinks; she feels no responsibility for other people’s feelings. She’s not trying to be charming, which isn’t always the case with a leading lady.”"

Her character, Ani Bezzerides, sounds like the sort of tough, strong female that the first season of True Detective was lacking. Rachel McAdams isn’t known for playing this sort of character, but True Detective has proven that it can be a showcase for actors to break away from typecasting. McAdams also refers to Bezzerides as “the job of a lifetime,” so take that for what it’s worth.

That’s all Rachel McAdams has to say concerning concrete True Detective details, but that’s understandable. Thankfully she does go into what it’s like to work with the LAPD and the Ventura County Police:

"“I don’t know how they do it every day. I was like, ‘I’m going to get a hash brown from McDonald’s and go to bed.'”"

So there you have it. Not a whole lot to go on, but it’s nice to Rachel McAdams out there and talking about True Detective. Once season two airs we should have more actors come forward and be more open about the series.
