Hot off the heels of being picked up for distribution, the Matthew McConaughey starring Sea of Trees had its press premiere at Cannes. And Deadline is reporting that it didn’t go so well. In fact, Deadline is stating that Sea of Trees was “audibly” booed after the credits rolled. Harsh.
Sea of Trees is directed by Gus Van Sant, a man known more for his art-house work. He did, however, direct the incredible Milk in 2008 in which Sean Penn gave possibly the performance of his career. Deadline is on the side of the film-makers, saying that it didn’t deserve such a reception.
The true, red-carpet premiere for Sea of Trees will come on Saturday. That’s when we’ll be able to get a clearer picture of what Matthew McConaughey has been up to and whether or not Sea of Trees is up to snuff.
Either way, do to the aforementioned distribution deal you’ll be able to see Matthew McConaughey flex his drama muscles again in Sea of Trees before long.
