Matthew McConaughey Has Been Approached by Marvel
Marvel has become a huge, churning machine. That machine also happens to pull in a ridiculous amount of money, which is quite different from how things used to be. A few years ago, the prospects of someone like Matthew McConaughey appearing in a Marvel movie were not only slim, but not exactly something fans would look forward to.

Well, things change.
Matthew McConaughey’s star has been on a serious rise since True Detective, and viewers are more interested than ever before in seeing what he’s capable of. Apparently Marvel, at some point, had the same idea.
While at Cannes promoting Sea of Trees, McConaughey talked with Variety and dropped the Marvel bomb:
"“I’ve read some Marvel and DC scripts and I’ve talked about working with them on some scripts, none of which I’ll share with you what they are — or were. Yeah, I’ve circled some of those.”"
It’s not really all that surprising that Marvel would go after Matthew McConaughey. He’s an actor in demand. But before you get too excited, McConaughey doesn’t exactly feel all that comfortable with the franchise machine:
"“Contractually, you’re going to return to the character over and over. It’s something I asked myself is it something I’d want to return to. Would I be excited to go back and put the shoes on the character again?”"
He’s open to the idea, but it would have to be something truly great. He doesn’t discount the already great scripts he’s gotten, or the large amount of money he’d made, claiming both are “exciting.” But you have to give respect to the guy for being able to turn away from that because it might not be a good fit for him.
Never say never, but don’t expect to see Matthew McConaughey in a superhero movie anytime soon.
