Vince Vaughn will be on the Cover of British GQ

Today is June first, and that means it’s officially the premiere month for True Detective season two. Finally. Outside of the two trailers we’ve gotten so far and a few other teases, there hasn’t been a  serious True Detective push from HBO. A few of the actors have given interviews in which they’re not allowed to talk about anything, but that’s about it.

Count this as one of the latter. Vince Vaughn will be gracing the cover of GQ’s British edition, and they’ve gone ahead and posted a short preview. Hopefully said preview isn’t indicative of how much True Detective comes up in the actual interview, because there’s none to be had here.

In fact, it seems like the preview was thrown together to elicit some sort of response. True Detective may not be present, but Vince Vaughn’s views on gun control are and they’re enough to get people talking. We’re not going to assume what the intentions of GQ are with this Vince Vaughn preview, but it’s difficult not to see a courting of controversy here.

One point that we can touch on here is Vaughn’s comedic output, which hasn’t been doing so great lately.

"“I’m not blaming anyone else but myself here. The machine can make you idle. You read a script and then you agree to a role, then soon enough you’re on set looking at a scene that has had all the juice and the life sucked right out of it. You become a hired gun doing a very inoffensive PG-13 movie…”"

That is certainly telling. We’ve been getting the feeling that Vince Vaughn is ready to broaden his horizons a little bit, and it looks like we were right. Hopefully True Detective will just be the beginning for a more interesting Vince Vaughn.

We’re hoping that there will be some more True Detective goodness in the full interview, which we’ll be covering later this month. Vince Vaughn has been front and center more than any other True Detective actor so far.

Part of it was due to timing and necessity, as Vince Vaughn was on a press tour for Unfinished Business while filming True Detective. After all is said and done we should see some more interviews with Vince Vaughn and the other cast members in which they’ll actually be able to talk about the show in detail.
