True Detective’s Ashely Hinshaw Talks Season Two in Interview

There is a common theme when it comes to True Detective interviews: actor in question is hugely excited for True Detective but can’t really talk about it. It should then come as no surprise that most interviews in which True Detective comes up can be on the boring side. It’s not a hard rule, but it does happen.

More from HBO

Some are better than others. This new interview that True Detective actor Ashley Hinshaw did with Crave Online is one of the better ones. Hinshaw doesn’t have the star power of Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, or Vince Vaughn, and maybe that’s why it’s a little more exciting to hear from her.

Hinshaw is a HBO veteran, previously having been on True Blood, but stepping into True Detective was something else entirely:

"“Yeah, I was so intimidated. I’m not usually nervous to work on something because by that point you’ve already been validated by somebody saying, “We think you’re the best for this role, we’d like to hire you.” But on True Detective I was just terrified. Luckily…I’ve done a few projects on HBO before so I knew almost everybody on the crew, which instantly made me feel really comfortable.”"

Much like everyone else involved in True Detective season two, Ashley Hinshaw is excited for the role. But True Detective come genuinely mean a big break for Hinshaw, so the stakes are perhaps a bit higher for her.

According to this interview, Hinshaw came in late to the season and apparently that brought a few difficulties with it:

"“I’ve always come onto these projects after the core group. Like in True Blood they had a group that was so solid by the time that I joined, and True Detective was very much the same way. I came in very late into the season, so I’ve been really lucky by having the people still be open to making me feel like I’m one of the gang and stuff. And both of those projects filmed here in LA, so there wasn’t a whole lot of hanging out off set because we were shooting super long hours and people were working really hard.”"

It would be fair to take that as meaning that Hinshaw won’t be in the entire season. It’s not really a surprise that the True Detective crew is especially hard-working, since a single season takes so long to fully develop. As I’m sure is obvious by now, Hinshaw doesn’t say anything about her character.

Still, all things considered this was one of the better True Detective interviews out there.
