With Game of Thrones winding down and anticipation for True Detective Season 2 starting to pick up steam, I’ve seen quite a few questions about when and what time the Season 2 premiere of True Detective will be released on HBO Now and HBO GO.

Well, we have an answer, and it’s something that you will like, I think.

Like the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere, the Season 2 premiere of True Detective will be released to HBO‘s streaming services, HBO Go and HBO Now, at exactly the same time that the episode airs on HBO.

As of right now, True Detective‘s Season 2 release is scheduled for 9 p.m. EST on June 21 exclusively on HBO, HBO Now, and HBO Go.

Of course, HBO wants all of its users and viewers to be happy and have access to the episode at the same time as everyone else. That’s just common sense, and it makes viewing fair for everyone.

However, HBO is coming at this issue from a very different perspective, as well.

Unlike any other cable service in the world, HBO is facing a huge piracy issue that goes way beyond the sharing of passwords. As we know, Game of Thrones is the most-pirated show in the world, and HBO hoped offering numerous options for viewing between HBO, HBO Go, HBO Now, and their apps would help stop piracy.

Releasing each episode at the same time across all viewing platforms, in theory, should be able to curb some of that piracy. It hasn’t exactly happened with Game of Thrones, but it’s very possible that it will work for some of HBO’s smaller shows.

Along with the True Detective premiere, you can catch all episodes of Season 2 of True Detective on HBO, HBO Go, and HBO Now at the time for the full season. Unless something changes, that will be every Sunday at 9 p.m. EST starting June 21.
