This Week in True Detective is a feature that aims to bring you the best True Detective happenings of the week. This could include breaking news, popular articles, or anything else that people found interesting or may have missed.

This was a big week, there’s no two ways about it. The second season of True Detective will premiere next weekend, and some major outlets were allowed to review the first three episodes. Those reviews came out yesterday, and most were fairly critical. Besides that, we were treated to two new trailers, bringing the True Detective season two hype to an all-time high.

Let’s begin.

  • HBO sent out two new True Detective season two trailers as well as a more detailed plot synopsis.
  • There were some new interviews this week, including ones from Colin Farrell and T. Bone Burnett. Yes, he’s behind the music of True Detective season two.
  • We wondered if we’ve seen the last True Detective season two trailer. Could there be one more before next weekend?
  • Nic Pizzolatto was the focus of a huge piece in Vanity Fair. Not all of it is focused on True Detective, but it is absolutely worth your time.
  • Will the True Detective opener be a Leonard Cohen song? One reporter says it’s so.
  • Finally, reviews of True Detective season two’s first three episodes are in. Some are better than others. It seems True Detective’s first season is casting a long shadow over the second.
