We wrote about the divisive nature of True Detective season two, and that continues to be the path True Detective is following. In new reviews from sites like The Concourse, critics seem to be becoming more comfortable with True Detective instead of wishing it was more of the same.
Admittedly, the author does come right out and say that the show “sucks,” but it’s about far more than that.
Business Insider thing is pro True Detective season two all the way, even going so far as to declare “the haters are wrong.” True Detective season two is a doing a lot of things different from its first, and it hasn’t so far been everyone’s cup of tea.
The first season was praised immediately, so this is the first time that True Detective has had to actually really work for praise. Something which it may not ever get, at least not in the same way as season one. The overall reviews of True Detective season two’s first episode appear to be softening, with more critics being more open-minded about where it could all lead.
True Detective season two has an incredibly high level of tension, higher than that of the first season. Four leads, at least three of them antiheroes, can put a strain on both a series and the viewer. The second season of True Detective is not going to be for everyone, but those with a more open-mind about where True Detective can and should go will be rewarded.
