Let’s Talk about the Preview for True Detective Season Two, Episode Four (Video)
The third episode of True Detective season two took a step back in terms of the action and returned is to the tension building of the first two episodes. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it is a bit of a letdown in terms of story development. It feels as if True Detective just blew past its first truly exciting moment.

But there may be more on the horizon.
The preview for True Detective’s fourth episode, “Down Will Come,” is here to build the hype. And it actually does just that. We get a look at an even more distressed Frank ready to return to his roots as a gangster. Jordan (Kelly Reilly) says, “and just like that, you’re back here.”
We certainly hope so. Frank has been teasing out the beast for the last few episodes, and we’re chomping at the bit to see him off the leash.
We also get a look at Paul in police gear, potentially ready for a raid. Paul hasn’t been doing much so far, so it’ll be nice to see him in action. Then we have a heart-to-heart between Paul and Ray in which Paul says that he “doesn’t know how to act in the world.” That’s something that Ray knows a thing or two about, and it will be the first time that Paul actually opens up a bit.
And then we see a reconciliation between Ray and his son. As we said in our review of last night’s episode, this strained relationship helps ground True Detective. It’s also the only relationship that keeps Ray ticking. All in all, however, it looks to be a very Paul-intesnive episode. That’s a good thing, as Paul has so far felt like a fifth wheel.
