Watch How Game of Thrones Made The Hardhome Battle

With the biggest budget in TV, HBO‘s Game of Thrones has always been able to do some crazy, huge, epic scenes and battles that other TV shows can’t do.

Unless you’re a graphic designer or an expert in animation, visual effects, or CGI, at some point during the series, you’ve probably asked yourself how does Game of Thrones do it?

Well, thanks to a little help from the Spanish VFX studio El Ranchito, we can see exactly how Game of Thrones puts together and pulls off their huge battle scenes, like we saw between Jon Snow and the Wildlings vs. the Wight Walkers  in “Hardhome” (Episode 8, Season 5).

If you recall, as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, Jon Snow and Tormund Giantsbane have traveled to Hardhome to bring back the remaining Wildlings living North of The Wall. Jon knows the Wildlings will be killed and then brought back from the dead to fight for the army of Wights that will surely be showing up at Castle Black in no time.

Well, right when Jon arrives, the army of the dead attacks Hardhome, and it’s basically a bloodbath.

Here’s how Game of Thrones, with the help of many graphic artists and effects experts made it happen, via Uproxx:

Crazy, right?

Game of Thrones took what The Walking Dead has been doing for five seasons with zombies, and honestly, GoT did it better!

I don’t know if you realize, but that is a ridiculous amount of work for one 20-minute scene. I can’t even fathom how long that would take to prep that scene to make sure it will all come together. And, I don’t even want to think about how much that scene would cost. That’s also the main reason why Game of Thrones can’t do these types of battle every week.
