HBO’s Ballers Starring Dwayne Johnson Renewed For Season 2
By Bryce Olin
Good news, Ballers fan!
The new hit dram-edy series HBO‘s Ballers has been renewed for a second season, according to a report from Variety.
Created by Stephen Levinson, Ballers stars Dwayne Johnson as a retired NFL star who lives in Miami and tries to continue living the lavish, luxurious lifestyle of a pro athlete by managing current player’s finances.
The series also stars Rob Corddry, John David Washington, Omar Miller, Donovan W. Carter, Troy Garity, London Brown, and Jazmyn Simon. Ballers is produced by Dwayne Johnson, Levinson, Mark Wahlberg, Dany Garcia, Peter Berg, Julian Farino, Denis Biggs, Evan Reilly, and Rob Weiss.
So far, the reviews on Ballers have been pretty good. I mean, no one is really saying the show is terrible or anything like that. Obviously, with the many similarities to the show Entourage, there has been a lot of chatter, both positive and negative, comparing the two shows.

Personally, I think Ballers is very well done, and it’s not trying to be something more than it actually is. That’s always important in a show about luxury, parties, and money. No show wants to “jump the shark” in that regard and take viewers out of the world of the show.
Ballers has a relatively low ceiling, though. It’s what I would call a premise-driven show. Sure, we like the characters and may enjoy the plot, but we’re interested because of premise of the series and what it represents more than anything else. That creates boundaries for where the show can go.
You can catch Ballers at 10 p.m. right after True Detective Season 2 on HBO, HBO Go, and HBO Now. Obviously, if you’re no caught up with the first season, you can watch it on-demand, on HBO Go, or HBO Now on your computer or streaming device.
