Rumor: Nina Dobrev for True Detective Season Three?

The second season of True Detective just aired its finale last Sunday, but the rumor-mill stops for no man. What we have here, folks, is likely our first True Detective season three rumor. There’s something oddly comforting about that. HBO has not publicly renewed True Detective for a third season yet, but it’s likely those deeply in the know — such as creator Nic Pizzolatto — already have an inkling as to how it’s going to shake out.

According to Hollywood Life, Nina Dobrev is actually lobbying her management to get her a spot in True Detective season three. Dobrev has previously appeared in The Vampire Diaries and Degrassi: The Next Generation. Hollywood Life is also reporting that she’s a huge fan of the show, not that it necessarily means anything when it comes to her chances.

As True Detective season three is still likely over a year away, we’re not comfortable calling this anything except a rumor — and it might just barely qualify as that. The “exclusive” source also says that Nina Dobrev is not the first actor to put themselves forward for a roll in season three at this super early stage, but she wants to be “first in line” when the time comes.

True Detective will be entering its off-period, and that means we’ll start seeing more and more rumors like this pop up. Just tiny bits of information floating around. Unless Pizzolatto strongly doesn’t want to return for True Detective season three, it’s likely that it will happen. But since we waited over a year for season three, we’re most likely going to be in the dark for a long time.
